Matchmaking system pure random?

So I’ve basically called off ever playing doubles by myself because of the people I get matched with. I have about 10 days played on H4 and have 50s in 4 playlists. So it really doesn’t make sense to me when I get paired with a SR1 in doubles who has never ever played Halo 4 online. He has literally never played so he’s a rank 1 in the playlist. Why would he match with me when I’m a 44??? This happens regularly. Is there any type of criteria that goes into the matchmaking system?

That is what happens when the population is this low, there arent enough players in the pool (and even less in the less populated playlists) for MM to be able to get players of same skill level, can it happen? sure but it is way more difficult so the system rather match you as fast as possible rather than you having to wait hours to find a single player on your skill level + opponents.

Yup, this guy is right on the money.

This is why it bothers me when people say, “Who cares about the population, as long as I can still find a game I’m good!”. Sustaining a healthy population is vital to keeping the game experience fun and balanced for all players.

I think you need to look at both sides of this problem. It is no fun for a new player being put up against players well above their skill level. The result is a slaughter that just drives potential new players away from the game.

did you play against a team that was similar? one guy high lvl and one guy low?

Yep all the time. I still hate it because it’s not fair to them and it’s not fun for anyone if it is just a slaughter or having to carry your teammate

That doesn’t change anything… It still sucks for everybody and if everyone were matched with people with like rank everyone would be happy. It’s not like it benefits anyone, good or bad

Why did you double post the same thing 2 times?

Also Yes it sucks for everyone but there is not much you can do, again this is related to the low population thus having a smaller pool of players (And in turn decreasing also the ammount of players with X ranks) making it so that either the system has to wait for players of similar skill (Even worse on low populated playlists) making it so that you and others need to wait for LONG times before you get matched up (And it wont work sinc epeople will search again as soon as they see they cant get a match) or let the system match you as fast as possible having to pick any available players from the available resource pool.

Bottom line deal with it, there is nothing you can do about it, I find it funny that people say they care nothing for the population as long as they can find a game fast (Wich is what happens atm) without considering that people leaving deteriorates MM because of this very issue of players not being matched with others of their same skill.

BeserkWolf is hitting the nail on the head here. There’s just not the population to support it right now. Although I personally feel as though the CSR is a complete waste of time, it doesn’t take away from the fact that I believe people of high skill are being matched unfairly, and it really hurts the competitive experience for those who play to win (whether or not you have a high CSR). These scenarios just further prove that the population of this game does indeed matter, and that being complacent with a population of 30K is not something we should be content with both as a community and a developer of the Halo series.

Although this person worded this kinda funny like he/she was arguing the OP… looking past that, he/she makes a really solid point. Not only does a low population hurt the competitives, but it also hurts the casuals who have to suffer through these games. It only furthers the point here. Imagine the casual teammate who is still rather new to Halo being thrown into these matches just getting lit up over and over again by these competitive veterans. It’s not fair to them, and will obviously drive them away from the series.

Apologies, I may have worded it wrong. It is Sunday morning in Australia and I am wearing my morning after Saturday night out head. But my point is I realise that getting bad team mates is frustrating, it is equally bad for the inexperienced players getting slaughtered.

I play mostly BTIS & am fed up with getting matched with CSR 30s, 40s, 50s & my team having 20s & less
It is worse in something like Dominion, I am sure most CSR 50’s from SWAT, BTIS, CTF, FLOOD warm up in that playlist where they are only a 1-15 CSR
I understand that the low population makes it hard for MM to always equally match players but come on, not to mention I am fed up with having 2 or 3 teammates quit & leave a game 8 v 5 or 6 & get no JiP help even when the score is under 50%
The players who quit should be banned quicker, I realize they may have voted for a map not noticing the Big Team Slayer (no personal loadouts) & when the game starts quit but it hurts a team not getting replacements!
