Why would a halfway smart matchmaking routine match players rank 1,3 and 7 against players rank 1, 2 and 3?
Even if the 1, 3, 7 group went in there as a full team in the first place then matchmaking has to find something more appropriate as an opponent for them.
And if they all were random then why wouldn’t matchmaking put them together like 1, 1, 7 and 2, 3, 3?
I can do the math calculating the average rank in my head so I would think that MS, CA and 343 are smart enough to build a matchmaking system that is a little bit more balanced.
I’m already highly annoyed with the crappy matchmaking in Halo 5 and now this turns out to be as crappy
Spartan Rank (XP) has never had an influence on skill-based matchmaking… not sure why you would expect it to here.
Because you’re matched based on a hidden skill value and not a progression rank.

i don’t understand why they don’t let people see this publicly in matchmaking so they can avoid the confusion.

Because it encourages more people to quit before a match. It is the same reason 343i doesn’t let you see the playlist ranking of your opponents until after the match. Right or wrong, that is the philosophy 343i operates under. Sometimes the system has to balance speed of matchmaking with the accuracy of the match, and many don’t like that we oftentimes can’t have both.

It’s usually common sense than a progression rank doesn’t affect matchmaking. Halo Wars 2 will be getting CSR at some point in the future, though.
They have a good ranking system since they’ve been doing it for so damn long. Overall level is just xp farm and It’s good they don’t show mmr because a lot of people would quit before they even tried.
Well the matchmaking sucks because you are pretty much doomed when you get players in your team who play for the very first time and don’t even know the controls while the other team has players who actually know how to play the game.
For that matter I don’t care whether it is ranked or so called “social” matchmaking.
In Halo 5 I ended up being matched against a team of champions - and I am far from being a anywhere near that.
Being slaughtered by a C1, C32, C60something and C100something as a result of poor matchmaking sucks and I doubt HW2’s MM is any better.
Why the -Yoink- does this game search for player for 5 minutes when you are playing 3 vs AI and you have a squad of 3?
Matchmaking takes time to sort itself out it’s not going to be accurate for individual playlists one day in. Especially with lower player count of early access.

There are still enough rank one players out there every day because I get them in my team all the time.
Most of them have absolutely no f*ing clue how the game works, so why not match ALL OF THEM WITH EACH OTHER rather than ruining other people’s games?
Just now I as a rank 5 got 2 rank 1 in my team while the other team had a 15, 9 and 7.
It must be very clear to everyone that this is far from balanced and totally unnecessary.
When your own team mates have no clue how the game works, how the controls work, what different units are good for (or not) then they should play in their own matchmaking world. It can’t be that difficult to match rank 1 players against and with other rank 1 players.
THIS -Yoinking!- MESS RUINS MY GAME EXPERIENCE
SO FAR I REGRET THAT I EVEN SPENT A PENNY ON THIS -Yoinking!- MESS

As such, players who haven’t landed on their true skill rating yet will get matched against a large open pool of players. This is why some players who are “Spartan Rank 1” might get matched against a much higher rank opponent. Again, it’s not an indicator of skill.
And this as well is -Yoinking!- stupid because why would you give a complete NOOB any credit they don’t deserve.
Fact is that every -Yoinking!- rank 1 that I had in my team had no clue about anything in the game and so at least in HW2 you can bet your money on that for now you can surely say that a rank 1 reflects that players non-existing skill.
In any real sports - whether it is football or chess - nobody every gets any “provisional” rating. You have to earn it. That should happen here as well because anything else just ruins it for anyone else

Another reason why matchmaking sucks
It shows how skilled the developers are LOL

What is the hidden skill of someone who doesn’t know anything about the game?
If I get such a guy in my team against a team that has played 100s of games it only shows how bad the programming behind this matchmaking is.
They could as well just throw all the names in a big bowl and draw the names from there.
Oh wait - I think this is how they really do it LOL

So what is the skill of someone who apparently NEVER played HW2 (or any other RTS for that matter) and why would such a person being matched against people who have played hundreds of matches? Unless you are saying that the guy with 100+ games behind him totally sucks as well - but then still he wins.
So the bottom line is that EXPERIENCE DOES MATTER and therefore needs to be considered in matchmaking
Here is another example why this HW2 matchmaking sucks:
In ‘Blitz’ you play cards. The more you play, the more cards you get. Those cards rank up when you get multiple cards of the same type.
So the more you play the better your cards.
Now to all of those of you who posted that rank doesn’t mean anything: you still want to tell me that 3 rank 1 players have an as good as a chance of winning such a Blitz game as a team of 3 rank 10 players?
SO WHY WOULD THIS STUPID MATCHMAKING EVEN PUT PLAYERS TOGETHER LIKE THAT?

Just because you are doing something for a long time doesn’t mean you are good at it LOL

I’d love to hear your ideas that would improve it
