I’m not usually one to post such problems on the forums, but this is getting quite annoying for me now.
I highly dislike laggy games so I often find myself setting “Search restrictions” to Good connection. I often find that this feature fails to work. Most games I play when I search without the filter are [Assuming connection is still based on the 5 bar system] 4/5 bars, but since i’m quite the spoilt child 
I like to have 5/5 Bars, don’t get me wrong, I full bar quite often and I Pull host on the occasion too.
When I search with the filter I expected games to be 4 bars + almost all the time yet i’m finding myself in games where the connection is on a “Yellow” or “orange” Connection [2-3/5 Bars].
Is this feature abit broken? or is it just me that seems to be having this little problem?
There is a better chance you’ll be matched with geographically close players then without it but you can still get matched up with players where there are round trip times of 300ms+ between both of you.
I’m from Western Australia and get matched up with Europeans all the time with prefer good connection who are 300ms+ on a good day. Ironically I get matched up with Americans and the connections are often far more playable with quickest.
Don’t waste your time with prefer good connection as it simply doesn’t work, this game can’t tell 1 Gigabit Fibre from dial-up and will often misdiagnose the worst connection as being the best because people are having trouble connecting to that person.
Provided people weren’t bridging ect even Halo 2 had better host selection and that was Bungie’s first online enabled Halo title.
I’ve found that the connection indicators really aren’t all that indicative of how great a connection is. It can indicate that I’m at full 5-bar and it can be the laggiest game ever, while it can also indicate I’m at 1/5 bars, while I’m having no problems.
Back when I had 1 Mbps downstream internet, I ALWAYS selected “Prioritize Good Connection”, and it seemed to work well. Then again, I’m from the west coast of the United States, so that likely played a role.
