Matchmaking PAIRING problems

Getting paired up in general is a mess. Ever since I started playing Reach in September, I’ve always chosen to be paired with people my skill level and with a good connection and even back then I’d be paired with Brigadiers, and Nobels. Now that I’m playing more, I want to be paired with more people who are my skill level. All the time I choose to be paired with people my skill level, but 98% of the time, I’m the lowest ranked person in a match by a lot. Other times I’ll be paired with people more around my skill level,and they will be on my team, but on the other team there will be Foerunners, Nobels, ect who absolutely destroy us. I mean hell, I played a match like that last week and the score was 142-22, they headshoted us all the time and spawn camped so as soon as we respawn, we’d be dead again (we somehow got TU Capture the Flag, it was on a Team Objective playlist). If that wasn’t bad enough, now lag happens way too often, even after I pick best connection in the settings. I have proof from a Living Dead match today where I died by backpedaling into a wall with the closest zombie at the bottom of the stairs in Oni Sword Base.

Matchmaking is honestly broken. It’s absolutely unfair, and is no fun at all to play. If Halo 4 is anything like this, then I’m sorry, but this is where I get off the Halo train.

343i best get their act together and make Halo 4 legit like crazy. Or I’m off the train too.

Ranks in Halo Reach don’t determine skill level. There are plenty of Inheritors and Reclaimers that are completely terrible at Halo. Just because you are getting paired up with people who are Nobles and Mythics does not mean that they are way above your skill level, it just means that they’ve been playing Halo Reach a lot longer than you.

Like the above said. Choosing Rank under the search options doesn’t mean that they will be your literal rank that you’ve earned through credits. It tries to pair you with people similar to your skill level, whether that is on your team OR the enemies team. It tries its best to make the match even. Unfortunatly the population is’t nearly as large as it used to be so its not really easy pickins.

Summed up what I was going to point out perfectly. Reach’s ranking system is just like Call of Duty’s, A high rank does not mean your good. It just means your a try-hard that plays the game all the day.

Playing more = poor representation of exact skill…

If what you want is matching based on skill then why even mention ranks at all? It’s exactly 99.57421% irrelevant. Time only makes a difference to the extremely new, which 99.57421% of the time you do not match up against (excluding guests because that’s a whole other mess of its own).

Now I don’t disagree with your conclusion: matching certainly could have used a stricter skill filter from the beginning… it’s just your reasoning that doesn’t make sense.

@OP
The thing to remember is that you are also limiting your searching to other people that have also changed their search settings to similar settings as you. Someone who is fed up with playing with bad connections might go in and say I want to play with good connections yet the reason he was playing in bad connection was because his connection was bad.

Just because you put in you want to play with similar skilled people does not mean you will be searching the “masses”, it means you will be searching others that have selected they want to match up with similar skill and the closest to you happens to be higher then you. I have found that you get the best games by leaving the default search settings for no other reason that not many use the settings.

Everything in Reach from the matchmaking to gameplay mechanics weren’t designed to be competitive so you’re never going to get the same sense of progression and be able to play with people relatively close to your skill level.

TrueSkill’s weighting in Reach is so low it might as well be non-existent even with the skill preference selected.
