Matchmaking Map Reviews and Strategies

Have you ever gone into Matchmaking and ever hear people yelling to veto a map, but you’ve never played it? Looking to find the little strategies that will give you an edge when playing online with friends or alone? Well here’s an opportunity to get in on some action.

Bungie, and now 343i have always been big community supporters and they show that by including some community-made maps into the Matchmaking playlists. While some of them are good and some aren’t so much, I know I have certainly not played them all, especially ones where I hear everyone in the pre-game lobby yelling, “Not that map!” So a couple of us over at Podtacular had an idea: why don’t we do the work for you by reviewing maps, and in the meantime, come up with some quick and simple strategies that will help give you an edge when those unfamiliar maps pop up. Only thing is, we need people! We can’t just go into matchmaking expecting to find a friendly bunch of people… (only if that were the case). This is where you guys come in.

We will be working with all of the competitive playlists to find maps to evaluate and develop strategies for. This also has the potential to become a Waypoint series (not saying it will), so if you want to get your name out there, this might be a good opportunity. Of course, if you’re on playing with us, your name will be in the credits.

Here’s some of the finer details:

[/li]- Go into matchmaking on whatever playlist is chosen for the night (Team Slayer, Action Sack, etc.) and specifically find custom maps with gametypes and play a round.

  • Back out into customs and play the map two or three times more. This way, everyone can get a feel for the map and come up with strategies.
  • Discuss the map and possible strategies for about 5 minutes.
  • Rinse and Repeat for two more maps.

The strategies that get developed over the course of the gameplay will be summed up by the hosts, and if you have a good enough strategy, you may even be invited to partake in the commentary when we record it.

We will do this every three weeks so we can release shows every week or two. The final format of the show will be a map overview and then strategy discussion. Map overview will consist of what playlist the map is found in, what gametypes are typically paired up with it in matchmaking, a fly-through of the level, and important points on the map, like objectives and weapon spawns. The strategy part is where we will highlight gameplay from the play test sessions and talk about the strategies that you all come up with.

So, do you think this is something you’d be interested in? If so, please head on over to our thread over at Podtacular.com and sign up. You can sign up here if you want and I’ll try to keep the lists synchronized. Once we generate enough interest in the project, we will start rolling out dates and times. If you don’t make a certain playdate, don’t worry about it, as your name will get fed back into the rotation at the top of the list. We want to get as many people involved with this as possible, so once you get in on a playdate, your name will rotate to the bottom of the list. I’m looking forward to getting this project off the ground and hope you guys will join us.

This sounds awesome! I cant wait to get in on it…

This project has huge potential… I hope plenty of people join in!

I approve of this endeavor.

To anyone indecisive about participating, it’s not that hard. Just tell us you’re interested and it’s only a matter of playing some Forge maps in Matchmaking with us and giving your 2 cents about good tips and strategies.

We really need some people willing to participate. It’s just playing some Forge maps with us and brainstorming tips and tricks for each. We’ll credit you in the video for the map(s) and of course you’re welcome to join the community.

I look forward to the reviews you do on the maps. When you do one on Affinity, Think Twice, and/or Chateau you should message me with the links to them. Sadly I will keep away from this due to bias. lol…

We can’t do this without participants so a “tell me when you’re done” attitude doesn’t help. What do you mean by bias?

What I mean by bias is that I was a designer behind all three of those maps so me being part of their review would not make sense. And sadly I don’t have the time to do something like this.

Ah, ok.

Anyone?

Still need people!
