I get what you’re saying, but the balance of all mid tier diamonds against two mid tier diamonds, a plat and a 1700 onyx does not seem balanced to me. I’ve been facing that consistently, and even though the numbers line up on paper, like OP, I am having the same issue where I get stomped because it’s two people I should play, one person I can definitely beat, and one that stomps my entire in what feels like a completely unfair advantage they’re that much better.
You just need to be careful with the MMR ranges.
A Diamond 5 could be MMR 1400… and a Diamond 6 1499.
So a difference of just under 100 MMR.
So could be very similar to the gap between a Diamond 6 vs low 1600’s.
At least in terms of raw MMR.
Yes but the point people make is they play against 3 1600 with one 1400 and their team is all in the 1400 range, not all games but most.
I do perform better than some of these 1600 players sometimes whether or not on my team but i lose csr if we lose because its “team based” or “couldnt carry hard enough”, yeah no sh. Also, lets say i play in a game were my team is high onyx and finally win a game, these players did everything so i get no csr in the end most of the time, the result being we all wonder why the one diamond was in that lobby in the first place and if its a loss you get verbally abused, all i say to them is dont hate the player hate the game i didnt choose this lobby lol. Let me prove im good enough to play with and against high onyx by beating those in my own rank first.
i do get that there isnt much of a difference if you get placed against low 1500s but i get high 1600 1700 and sometimes some very good 1900 who go triple positive kda.
You’re not being punished for having a good game…You’re being rated based on performance and continued expected performance. If you don’t continue with that expected performance then the ELO readjusts your rating. Nothing about that is “punishing” you and if you believe that then you should stop playing ranked in any game.
As for the hidden rating, its probably to curb peoples expectations because ELO can shoot up and down pretty hard until it finds some form of equilibrium. The visual rating in front of that is likely to provide a bit more balance on top of the fact that its probably a way to slow down attempts to exploit it if players can see the direct calculations.
