To me, rank lost meaning a long time ago. Now it just shows how much you play Halo. I recommend to play some custom matches with some friends or jump in to some SWAT. That will help build your twitch reflexes and also strengthen your sense of area awareness without relying on the radar. If you go play a different playlist like BTB (which will give you more targets to shoot at) hang back a little and don’t go charging in unless you need/have to).
Going up against higher ranks may seem like a downer, but it happens virtually to everybody. I’ve had my fair share of going in to matches and coming out battered and bruised. I’ve also gone in to matches and came out as one of those guys you don’t like with 20+ kills and minimal deaths. Just keep practicing and you’ll be one of those guys also.
I appreciate what you are trying to say, and to play a custom game I would need others willing to play custom games. Since none of my friends are playing Halo, doesn’t make it easy.
Normally, I don’t post too many of these complain threads; but if we don’t voice our frustration, 343 will not try to make a better game. Since half of the Halo experience is MP, its amazing how fun this game is not half the time…
And since no one communicates other than in parties, makes solo players like me kinda flapping in the wind
The real point here is not for me to get better by dying constantly; the issue is that the matchmaking system is frustration-inducing to say the least

I would suggest not comparing yourself to players like that. More often than not, if someone’s doing really well on the other team you can look back through the game replay to see them camping power weapons with the active camo.
I kid you not, I played a game of BTB against some people, lost, checked a guy’s medals on the other team and saw that he had 9 rocket kills. That’s THREE rocket spawns that he got. That’s not luck, that’s camping the rocket spawn.
tl;dr - there are some people that don’t want to play the game. They have no love for competition or a fair game. They just want to have a better k/d than everybody else, because that’s what’s important to them. Personally, I think they’re a little immature and insecure, but there’s nothing I can do about it once they buy the game.
Submit a negative player review (either too skilled if they’re playing fair and still outgunning everybody else or unsporting conduct if they’re using active camo the whole game), and try again the next game.
Nucking, you have helped me decide to do another playdate. In about a week or so, I’ll post a thread about the next WCCN (Halo Waypoint Community Carnage Night). We do customs and matchmaking as well. The people that join in are Waypoint forums members (some are good at Halo, others are not so much), so you won’t have to worry about playing against randoms. Mind you though, the ranks will be various all over for these, but they are about having fun and community.
Thanks for the thoughts, everyone. I am gonna take it to heart.
There are aspects to Halo MP thats a lot of fun, otherwise I wouldn’t be playing. The vehicles in the maps is easily my fav thing…taking on dudes in tanks seems fun to me
I realize this is 343s first stab at MP or a game of this scale, but hope some TU squares things away.
In this day and age, Matchmaking is more important than ever. Not sure why devs can’t seem to make a more complex system to ensure games of similar stats are paired more evenly.
Seems like it’d be a win-win. No?
Thanks again, everyone. Vent over
Gonna go to bed
Night!
Update: i look forward to that, A very easy target!
How about the flip side …how great player must feel when they are teamed up with sucky players??? then we are forced to pull a miracle out of our -Yoink- to win…BTW campers never win…someone who is run and gunning is always going to get more kills then someone hiding in a corner…so it doesn’t bother me at all when someone is camping…if you dont want people running around with rockets then play MLG version or swat…its that simple… anyway I agree good player shouldnt have to put up with bad players and bad players shouldnt have to deal with good players…

Rank is an indicator of how much you’ve played, not skill. I matched up against a 88 the other day and I consistently destroyed him.
And play with friends. That’s the best way to avoid getting dismantled (unless if your terrible) while having fun.
