Matching up constantly with top 500 semi-pro onyx players at D3 can’t play with friends

  1. To explain a little while back I was playing with buddies of mine who are in low Diamond tier and ended up dropping consistently around 20 to 30 kills going double or triple positive but we were winning 1 and losing 1 so our ranks were not increasing much.
  2. The next day I hop on my friend is D3 and I am D3 my friend is constantly going double and triple negative and just not having fun he says he was going double positive when he was playing alone but because we started matching up with onyx players around 1500-1800 he started to not do as well
  3. After 5 games he just gives up and goes to solo queue and I solo queue and all of a sudden I am playing near semi-pro level talent and he is playing normal diamond players.
  • This MMR based matchmaking has to go for people queuing up together in ranked the main determining factors to match people up should just be ranks and not hidden MMR. I can’t even play comp with my friends anymore I’m so done with this game man.

I made two accounts, one only pulls sweaty games that I am the sole carry for, OR I match 1900 onyx games it is D3.

My second account only matches balanced games and is Onyx.

One has a 3.0 KD overall the other just ranked stats. I have a suspicion it incorporates those stats.

That’d be nuts because what if some1 else plays on the Xbox

The issue with not having tight sbmm in ranked is the fact that the teams are essentially balanced to give as close to a 50/50 outcome as possible. This means if two players are playing together with a large skill gap then it’s always going to be easier for one and harder for the other.

I’ve managed to solve this by playing with my worse friends on another account, but one where I use mouse and keyboard.

If that’s the case it’s not working because this was on a worse alt so I could play with my diamond friends and we lost badly on every single game we played. They should just match people up with ranks in ranked SKBMM needs to just be for social but keep it out of ranked. It straight up just doesn’t work if I’m getting matched with onyx players at D3 and my friends are getting destroyed.

It can tell if you’re playing at a higher level, as I say it matches the teams so the overall MMR is about equal on both teams.

I don’t understand why they don’t just make the CSR equal to the real MMR and just match based on that.

What does obfuscating MMR in ranked actually accomplish beyond frustrating and/or confusing players?

Yes and that’s my problem there needs to be a higher threshold for matching based on higher MMR I get 30 kills one game then I’m matched with onyx players the next game you should get matched up based on ranks. However, if you are dropping 40 to 50 bombs back to back then you should be matched up with higher level comp.

There would be no grind as you’d always be at the intended rank. Generally you place lower CSR than your true MMR so you can have an inflated feeling of progression.

I have to admit it kind felt like that when Halo 5 first dropped. I got Onyx in 10 games, then it was like oh I’m top rank already. The newer system that places you in Diamond 3 at least made you need to win games to earn the rank.

The system is good at getting balanced games but if you’re in a party it usually takes some games for the system to understand this doesn’t give you an advantage as off the bat it makes your team have a lower MMR to compensate the fact you should be using advanced teamwork.

Overall I am a fan of Trueskill2, while it has some shortcomings. It’s the best system we have had in any game to date imo.

If we already know the systems going to match us up at onyx but matched us at a lower rank it just comes off as manipulative and less fun

It’s aim is to get 50/50 games, so it has to match you up against Onyx players to achieve that.

Whole I agree it is somewhat misleading to do that, it also ensures that players still have to win games to achieve their true rank. Ultimately players may play in a way the system determines is high level, but it doesn’t accurately translate to wins. This will bring down their rank over time with a view to them equalling out, but at least they don’t experience the rapid changes that the system can produce, especially early on in the players ranking.

It takes at least 40+ games before the large fluctuations end.

Dude im 1500 Onyx and every game I play I get all diamond teammates while the enemy team consisits of 1800s, 1700s, and high 1600s. I gain like 2 mmr everytime I win and then I lose to these people who are obviously way better than me and I lose 10-20 mmr. It is legit impossible for me to get out of 1500. Then there are matches where I have all 1800s on my team and the enemy team is all diamonds and then we steak them and I gain no mmr at all because my teammates get every kill and im like 9 and 2. Why am I not placed against only 1500s that way I will be able to actually have a fair chance at winning.

Smurfing is C@ncer. You all know that’s officially cheating right?

Plus it’s a bit of a buffer. 10 games isn’t a lot to accurately place a player. The system is incredible to get as close as it does in such a short space of time. But overall, what is it? - 46 games to be certain (in a 4v4 playlist).

The only solution is to get new friends.

I jest somewhat… but this isn’t a problem confined to Halo.

Taking into account the players on your team - how would you construct an opposing team that let’s your lower ranked buddy have a good time… that doesn’t mean that the other team suffers at the hands of your dominance.

It can’t be done. The lowest ranked player will always be just that. And the bigger the difference between you and them… the bigger the hill they have to climb.

I’ve found one way ha, by playing on mouse and keyboard. On controller I’m a mid Onyx player, but on kbm I’m around D1 level. It means the skill gap is far less aggressive for my friends that are all below Diamond.

Only annoying thing is I can’t play on my main account because even in KBM solo/duo I am treated like a mid Onyx player so the games are disgracefully unbalanced due to my skill level being significantly lower than assumed. I wish they’d allow us to have two separate MMR values for input methods as I cant imagine many players are equally adept at both, one will almost always be stronger than the other at a personal level.

As most players who have tried will have found out, it’s awful to play in the Solo playlist of your non dominant input.

Ill take your word for it that your using a different control method otherwise the term for this would boosting or cheating. Some might even call you a bad actor.

smurfing isn’t cheating my guy

When you are using it to play in ranked specifically to get easier lobbies “for your mates” it very much is. People have been banned for doing exactly that in previous halo games.

They call it boosting.

no that is called reverse boosting
