So here I am back at Halo after a couple months hiatus, and I go to do some ranked slayer. First match is a few diamonds, onyx and a champ. Next ten matches are very similar. I do not perform well in most of them. I lost 8 of the 10 placements. What do I get ranked? Diamond 4. My games did not deserve that rank. I’m not that kind of skilled, and I really do not wish to go lose X amount of games to drop down to platinum to start having fun. How does this make any sense?
Lost 8 of 10 and was placed Diamond 4? Lol What did you place last season? Or before your hiatus?
I’ll be honest, I can’t figure it out either. I’ve seen some players playing seriously badly and when they get ranked they’ve been high in the gold levels, then I find I land in the silver and bronze? I’m not actually that great either, but I’ve had matches where I’ve played better than the majority who earn gold and I scored higher on the match stats and still landed bronze? Only a couple of times I hit gold, which given the stats through those matches seemed to ‘feel’ about right at the time.
I’ve no idea how it works, it seems a bit confusing if slightly random, but I do recall reading somewhere that if you’re in a category (eg gold or diamond) and you score not so good you can only drop to the lowest in that category. In other words, if you’re in diamond you won’t get busted below the lowest diamond for the season? That’s if I recall that correctly of course, I’ve actually gone off playing arena matches for some time now.
Regards.

They have fixed it to where you can move from Diamond 1 to Platinum 6 and so on. Each persons rank depends on where they ranked the previous season(s). If you were plat 5 last season and a friend of yours was gold 5 and you played all 10 matches together. You would each rank differently. This is also different for each playlist
Best place to get feedback on this is in the matchmaking feedback thread in the MM forums. If you link up your games Dr. Menke should be able to help you out, I’d also read up on the latest changes made to matchmaking that were just released:
