I just played a game of HCS Summer Preview 2017 searching solo and it was so uneven it’s not even fair.
My my team consisted of:
me (diamond 6)
Platinum 5
Platinum 6
Platinum 4
and the other team:
Onyx 1540
Onyx 1852
Onyx 1520
Unranked smurf with 6 of 9 wins and 7.4 KDA
We lost 50-33 in a slayer where understandably my entire team went -5 or -6. The issue has been allegedly addressed by 343, but we’re still running in to these issues. Some games you’ll have no chance of winning because of the uneven matchups, then others you’ll win so easily because the other team simply isn’t near your team’s skill level. I play the HCS playlist to improve my skill against other players my level or higher.
From someone who’s played well over 1000 games of HCS ever since it first came out as Proving Grounds, 9 times out of 10, the skill gap between a Platinum and an Onyx (in this playlist at least, can’t really speak on others) is HUGE. Someone with a decent shot and a basic understanding of what to do can get to Platinum, where in onyx you have to know what you’re doing. I know it affects search times but I really think you should only match players within 1 class of your rank (platinums able to match gold, plat, or diamond) obviously there will be exceptions with higher ranks partied up with lower ranks, but in that case I think it should match based on the higher ranked player in the party.
theres also the issue that 343 has said they’ve addressed with solo players matching against teams of 4. While I truly think this is hard for 343 to fix because of search times, it happens WAY too often.
In conclusion, I don’t want to have to switch to playing customs to get an even matchup because I like trying to go through the ranks and trying to get that top 200 spot, but it’s very frustrating when a lot of times it’s not even competitive. This isn’t me just blaming my teammates for losing, because it’s not their fault. They’re set up for failure before the game even starts
Does anybody else here see this as an issue that needs to be re-addressed? Or is it just me?
