I know Halo 5’s ranking system is a complete joke but why have I been getting stuck with people who are platinum, diamond, and even onyx a few times. Is this that hidden ranking system I’ve been reading about?
Well, given that you don’t actually know who is ranked what before a match starts, there is a possibility that the people you played with were unranked and on their 10th placement matches and got their ranks after the match finished. Probably something that may need to change. I’d certainly like an idea of what I’m in store for at the start.
Your highest CSR is onyx though. Youll be ranked with people close to your rank last season
Ha - I was playing Champions in FFA during my ranking matches. Platinum - Lol
I would feel sorry for you if I had not played an a game of placement doubles against champion ranks.

I’ve been there… and it was on a foreign server too. Like pulling teeth without anaesthetic
I can’t figure it out at all. This is what happened to me.
BRONZE AGAINST CHAMPIONS HOW IS THAT MATCHING?
Can only think that its because you were on placement matches it grouped you with them to find what ranking you should be.
ya im not a fan of how it matches your team

Yep :’(
Yes, there is a hidden skill ranking system built into the game. Not sure exactly what it goes off of but you can still match against onyx’s as a platinum player if your going super positive all your games and still losing. I know this is true because I had made a smurf account once and I was going super positive and as a gold player at the time, I was getting matched up against onyx’s and champions. The game will take in account your skill and put you with similar players regardless of your rank. Which is why I don’t fully agree with the ranking system because then it’s kind of meaningless at that point. The rank only shows how often you win or lose your games and has nothing to do with how good of a player you are.
Similar to what others have said, you’re not actually sorted - at least not completely - on your visible arena rank. There’s an under the hood MMR value that’s used to match players.
I mean playing Plats isn’t a weird thing. If you were just starting your placement matches and were already playing Onyx and Champs then I’d say “wtf!?!?!” I have experienced this.
Maybe I’m just getting matched with a bad team I go positive most of the time. Or I could just be getting worse at the game.
