Now after seeing new cinematic where Chief talks to Cortana clone and then inserts it in his helmet, also confirmation that this happens early in the game i feel a bit disappointed.
They say Halo is about humanity,Chief should be their greatest hero and protector but he’s obsession with Cortana A.I. he is presented like he cares more about Cortana than Humans.
I can’t stand the idea that A.I.'s would be the future in technology advancement,in the present day we see how useless and not reliable that thing is.
I actually kind of agree. AI will be useless and unreliable until it briefly becomes super competent, at which point it will then become an immediate threat to us.
Seeing as AI are incredibly useful in the Halo Universe, whether dumb or smart, I wouldn’t necessarily call the Chief retrieving the one in what was shown an obsession. A Spartan is a force to be reckoned with on their own, but paired with an AI in their noggin and they are pretty much unbeatable, having all kinds of advantages on a battlefield. Look at Jerome and Isabel. Would you also call that an obessesion?
I may be obsessed with Cortana…just saying…

They present Chief that way, like he couldn’t wait to insert Cortana clone(or whatever it is)into his head.

The AI is an asset that can help. “Couldn’t wait” is hardly the term I would use. To me he seems to do it nonchalantly just like all the other times he has plugged an AI into his head. I would even go as far as to say that I saw some hesitation before he offered the empty chip.

To both of your points, he seemed hesitant to take the new AI. But he was also a little obsessed with Cortana.
A major battlefield advantage for sure, but only
if the AI is smart enough to be of use an either dumb or perhaps benevolent enough not to recognize humanity’s vast array of problems. I guess in the Halo
universe though, AIs would naturally side with humanity even if they were conscious and super intelligent. Because they share a common enemy in the flood and the covenant, both essentially enemies that are attempting to destroy everything
I don’t get that vibe at all. I think he showed how much he cares about humans just in that very same cutscene when he was floating through space. He partners with AI to help him save humanity.

Again, I wouldn’t say he’s obsessed, I think that’s too strong a word. If we had to describe his attachment to Cortana, I would use the word “clingy”, a lighter term. But then again you can’t really fault the man. I mean to say, after Reach fell she was pretty much all he had throughout 2552 and beyond.
Well thats kinda 343i Master chief. Sure there were hints in halo 3 that John was worried about cortana.
But i think they take it abit to far, consider the short time they knew each other really, it feels odd compared to book chief.

One of the major things from the book First Strike is Chief coming to understand that Cortana is more than just military hardware and seriously questions if he could sacrifice her to complete any mission. It’s not odd at all.
I like Cortana, but I was hoping after she “died” in halo 4 that Blue Team would fill that character interaction void for Chief. But then halo 5 happened and made blue team look like undeveloped characters, while also turning Cortana into a crazy villain lol

Which is odd… consider how many people in the Halo universe sacrifice themself for the war inc. in Mission with Chief togheter. But an AI he knows for 3 months he draws a line? Ya odd…

I’ll agree chief’s attachment to cortana from 3-5 has been a bit much, but to be honest Halo has always (well until halo 5) presented AI’s as useful companions and tools. If anything its one of halo’s more unique points in fiction.
And not all AI’s today are useless. Yes most AI’s in video games are primitive, but we also have AlphaStar and other AI’s beating pros at starcraft and League, as well as self-driving or semi-automatic driving cars progressing fairly well.

And he did make that choice by leaving her on High Charity.

It’s not so much an obsession with an A.I, its that Chief really has come to care about Cortana in the same manner he would just about any other spartan or soldier in his fire team. In Fall of Reach, Chief couldn’t bring himself to look at Sam when they were forced to leave him behind otherwise he would have chosen to stay with him while the ship they were on was in the process of exploding. Chief’s character progression over the course of several books and games has him going from seeing Cortana as nothing more than military equipment to basically viewing her as another comrade he would go above and beyond for. I don’t see how this is unnatural at all especially given how much they have been through. Their is a reason why Chief is considered to be a good leader among the Spartan 2’s and its because he really does care about the people he works with.

For someone who seems to have read the books you seem pretty unaware of the people in John’s life instructing him on how and when to sacrifice others. Chief Mendez told him he needed to be damn sure sending others to their death would actually mean something and not to do so flippantly. Halsey instructed him that her greater good mindset was bunk and even had him learn that lesson by giving him the choice to turn over Johnson to ONI because he might have had a resistance to the Flood.
Yeah, Chief may not have known Cortana for a long time, but that’s irrelevant. Chief wouldn’t sacrifice anybody just on the basis of knowing them briefly.
I don’t see it as an obsession at all. He’s been through alot and has lost alot of friends, so it’s not crazy that he cares about her and is trying to get her back. If I was Chief, I’d be attached to Cortana too. And taking “Miss Weapon” with him is the most logical thing he could have done. She’s very valuable and can do things he can’t. It would have been wrong if he didn’t take her.
Cortana quickly became a mother figure to Chief, now with this one, it seems he’s taking on the parental role.

I agree,343 made relationship between Chief and Cortana look cringey in Halo 4.
One of the most stupid dialogue came at the end of that game when Lasky said to Chief something like:“I lost some people in my life but nothing compared to you”,for A.I.
Those who watched Halo 4 prequel movie Forward Unto Dawn know that Lasky lost many friends including his girlfriend.
