Short answer: retconned for nanobots.

Correct? There was no mention of nanobots in armor until glasslands, right? and even then wasn’t it Mark VII?

Nanobots or Space Magic… does it really matter? it’s a new artistic take on it by a new studio. Not everything has to be explained along with canon.

It’s a game.

Cool opinion.

i agree to a degree, but i love halo and love the cannon, and IF there is an explanation, which there is i want to know, that all

Obsessing over every detail will only make you guys miserable… you might never get an answer from 343 or a book.

Try and forget about it until you actually play the game. If I’m correct Frank said at some point in the game itself it is explained…

And never did I present my post as fact, of course it’s my opinion and I am allowed to express mine as have others. Don’t police other peoples replies unless there’s trolling going on mmkay? I meant no offense

i agree, but i am borderline pycotic and have to know whats happening lol, i could wait i would, but ive got an answer anyways so im happy now

Most people say nanobots, however even nanobots would not be able to change the armor as drastically as its been changed. Nanobots would have also repaired that dent in his chest, but its still there.

If you compare the 2 together, there’s really not much overall difference. all the same angles, the flashlights, the pieces still connect the same, etc. But there small differences in the player model and armor that make it seem drastically different than halo 3. The only things on the armor that are unbelievably different are the shoulders, as they are now rounded around the arm and lower on the arm. Everything else is just graphically different.

Simply put, 343 changed chief’s armor because they can. Its called artistic liberty. They aren’t confined to the same designs bungie had established, and can now make the universe more to their liking, for better or for worse.

My replies in red. Have a good one, and remember:

It’s a game.

> Most people say nanobots, however even nanobots would not be able to change the armor as drastically as its been changed. Nanobots would have also repaired that dent in his chest, but its still there.

Cortana changed it which would seem to imply she is the one who left it there.

I like the nanobot explanation. I understand that 343i have artistic license now that they own Halo, but it’s nice to have a reason behind the change.

Until it is explained in the game (if it is) I think Cortana changed it as well weather using or adding Nanobots to Chiefs armor somehow or by controlling machines on the ship to change it while somehow keeping him in cryosleep. As far as the dent or scar on the armor maybe Cortana knew the Chief would want it left as a reminder of what he’s been through and the sacrifices he made. Or maybe she is in the process of changing his armor when all hell breaks loose and she has to wake him and it just didn’t get fixed.

If it doesn’t get explained in the game for some reason, I say just use your imagination, it is a game after all so just make up an explanation that works best for you.

Puts a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘-Yoink!-’

As long as something is not confirmed they just speculate stuff, so you can take that with a grain of salt.

There doesn’t have to be an in canon reason. It’s their game and obviously they’re gonna change stuff. They can’t just keep everything the same with just better graphics, it would just look like Bungie’s Halo. Halo 4 is their Halo and everything that’s changed is because they want those things to look like that.

i fully understand and totally get that, but i would prefer they do it with an explanation, which they have done, nano bots. they want to change stuff? fine, i love the new covies, i just wanted to know if there was an explanation

Halo 4 is their Halo and everything that’s changed is because they want those things to look like that.

Except that, in the case of the Chief’s appearance, there is a canon explanation. The explanation is that Cortana used nanobots to alter the Chief’s appearance. This has been confirmed between the Halo 4 story page and statements from 343. The remaining mystery (and Halopedia appears to be speculating about this) is where the nanobots came from.

What? 343 Industries has always talked about how they wish to respect the canon yet it’s perfectly acceptable to change things simply for the hell of it? That is a huge middle finger to those who actually care about the canon.

I can no longer play Halo anymore knowing there is a smiling Kermit the frog looking face on the Chiefs butt, lol.

> nanobots dude

Nanobots dude is now a meme.

nanobots, dude
