Well, at this point, chief probably has rugged hair, lots of stubble (possibly a full beard), and monkey like stare. He’d also be blinded if he took that helmet off, considering his pupils have been dilating for DAYS before he went into cryo,

This is the same issue as having Link talk. No one would be satisfied with how he would sound and no one would be satisfied with how MC looked.
Easier for the developers just to keep it a mystery.

i DIDN’T LIKE any of the Halo Reach character looks
