as some of you may remember, 343i struggled a bit to get Master Chief’s armor to look right for Halo:Combat Evolved Anniversary; they started using the Halo:Reach with Mark V shoulders and helmet, but ultimately ended up giving the Chief’s original Mark V armor a complete HD overhaul… giving the Chief some awesome-looking gear for his 10-year anniversary.
Now there’s rumors about Halo 2 Anniversary, which may come out this year if those rumors are to be believed. So the question is… what will the Chief be wearing for the Anniversary of his second game?
Way I see it, we have 3 options; first one is his brand-new armor from the Halo 4 campaign, the so-called “Mark VII” that which is not unlockable in multiplayer. Personally, this is my favorite next the HD Mark V we got in the last Anniversary game, so I won’t complain if they use it.
Next is the multiplayer version of Mark VI from Halo 4. Problem with this one is it’s not entirely accurate to the Mark VI armor from Halo 2 and Halo 3; specifically, 343i (for whatever reason) decided to make the shoulders real fat and rounded, nothing at all like they’re supposed to be. The Mark V shoulders from the Champions DLC are more accurate. Only other problem is the colored undersuit. Shouldn’t be hard to fix, but the Halo 4 MP Mark VI armor as it is would be my last choice.
Finally, they could give the Mark VI an HD overhaul just like they did for Halo:CE Anniversary. I imagine the end result looking a bit like the Halo 4 MP variant, but with several refinements to make it look more accurate to the original Mark VI (such as fixing the deformed shoulders, bringing back the “space diaper” thingy, and changing the style of the undersuit).
So what’s it gonna be?

It’s not Mark 7, it’s Mark 6. Cortana used the nano-bots in Chief’s suit to modify it while in cryo.
And I’d honestly rather an HD overhaul of the original.
Original, classic, beloved Mark VI. I don’t agree with the Master Chief’s new armor. Makes him look like a brute with a sad visor and tiny hands. I love Halo, but there were some bad decisions with Halo 4, at least aesthetically, if nothing else.
HD version of his Halo 2 armour, of course.

I know it’s not actually “Mark VII”; that’s why I said “so-called”.
…and there were no nanobots; 343i just redesigned the Mark VI armor for Halo 4. If you hadn’t noticed, all the Spartans in the opening cutscene are wearing the updated Mark VI, and the Chief is wearing it when he is presented with Cortana.
That was basically 343i’s way of saying “he’s always been wearing that suit. Never mind that it looks nothing like the armor he was wearing at the end of halo 3”. I half-expect 343i to have the Chief in his Halo 4 armor for Halo 2 Anniversary for this reason.
I wouldn’t mind too much either way, but I honestly like the Halo 4 Mark VI/GEN2 armor better than the old Mark VI. Just my opinion.
I personally think his armor in H4 was the best. Graphically and artistically. But if there’s a H2A I’d rather see the armor from the original H2. Just to remain cannon with the story. But the color should be a different shade of green. Maybe darker

I hate to be that guy … but the reason all of those Spartans were wearing that armor is because the folks who worked on the CG only received that character model to work with (from what I understand, I could be wrong, but read on).
They should have been in Mark IV armor as that was a flashback to when the Covenant invaded and the Mark VI didn’t crop up until 2552 when there were only a handful of Spartans left. I only know of 4 for certain who were outfitted with any Mark VI variant: Linda, Fred, Will, and John. I’m assuming Jun got the Mark VI, but he was considered MIA until the recent comics in which he appears looking more like Agent 47 than a Spartan. As far as I know, Kelly still has her Mark V.
Chief got Cortana right around the time his armor was updated from the Mark IV to the Mark V.
So, short answer is this: the Halo 4 prologue is wrong; canonically incorrect. But it’s still completely awesome otherwise.
It should be an HD overhaul, just like the armor in Halo CEA.

His new armor looks more believable, the way I’d picture a real life Spartan-ll.

Canon/ storyline wise they weren’t wearing that armor at the time. The reason they’re wearing that armor in the prologue is to show off the new art design and graphics.
I believe it was stated that Chief’s redesigned armor was based off of a variant of MJOLNIR Mark IV, canonically. I can sorta see this, since the Mark IV had so many radically different variants.
I think it’ll be a combination of the Halo 4 Mk. V and Mk. VI suits along with a codpiece. I speculate the Mark VI’s codpiece was always optional but too familiar to abandon. The hardware status lights will be removed too and overall a darker undersuit. The GEN2 undersuit pattern seen little visual changes given John’s third generation mark IV, the point is to have a convincingly light weight and rugged combat gear. The helmet will probably look smaller and rounder considering the aesthetic tweaks between 2552 and 2554 (which I assume when the Mark VI GEN2 was introduced).
My current armor is the “2553 Mark V” so I’m not discussing that…
I’ve seen some beautiful fan renders circulating on YouTube. Chief’s armor looked a little too hand-me-down in Halo 2, considering it was a brand new set of MJOLNIR. It should look darker green, lean towards Halo 3’s MK.VI appearance, and look like it just came up from Songnam this morning.
> Songnam
The manufacturer was Korean, wasn’t it?

Ooh. You should share.
The armor should look like an updated Halo 3 version with Halo 3’s HUD (or a similar version).
Also: The version of Mk. VI seen in Halo 4’s multiplayer is an update variant that is meant to work with the [GEN 2] systems. It’s technically not a retcon or redesign of the armor the Chief originally wore.
