Can someone explain to me how Master Chief’s armor drastically changes from a Mark 6 gen 1 armor to Mark 7 gen 2 armor?
It didn’t change, canonically. It’s still Gen 1 Mk VI, just heavily upgraded by Cortana in cryo.
Well first, the armor Master Chief dons in Halo 4 is Mk. 6, though it was “Cortana’s Special Variant”. Frankie in an interview hinted at that there were nanomachines aboard the Dawn. So Cortana could have been upgrading Chiefs armor while he was in cryosleep.
Though, the main reason for the change was because 343i wanted to the art in a different direction.
Cortana states herself in the opening of the first mission when she wakes Chief up that she updated his armour’s firmware, the programming his HUD and suit operates on. The actual design is 343’s artistic take on the Mark VI armour worn in Halo 2 and 3. As others have said, it is canonically the same armour, just with a different companies artistic take on it (like with the Forerunner architecture being so different from the original trilogy and Halo 4).
Ok thanks guys just something that I’ve been wondering for a while and I’m assuming the same thing happened to the weapons and vehicles that were aboard the Forward Unto Dawn.

I don’t think there are any major objections to the armour.
A good explanation would be like this:
2552- Halo 3’s events end, the war is over, the Forward Unto Dawn is drifting in space with Chief and Cortana. Chief enters cryo sleep and tells Cortana to wake him when she needs him
2554- cortana wakes chief up from cryo sleep and tells him that she is lonley, they chat for a bit, cortana says she scanned the Forward Unto Dawn and theres a brand new MJOLNIR Spartan Suit and is a prototype. Master Chief travels through the ship to the armory and finds this state of the art suit, he changes into it. He takes off his current suit, and puts on the brand new suit found in the armory of the broken ship. Chief then returns to Cryo, he tells Cortana goodnight and to wake him up again if anyone finds them.
2557- Cortana wakes chief up a second time, and the events of Halo 4 take place.
I hope 343i makes my explanation canon as it makes the most sense.
His Halo 2 armor also gets some unexplained changes in between Halo2 and 3 (i.e. The armor on the backs of the hands becomes three dots, whereas in Halo2 they had five dots like the five side of a die)
Although the damage on the suit (scratch and dent on torso makes sense)
They should have kept the armor and then upgraded when he got to Infinity

This would have been a much better explanation for the sudden change. 343i would have to have modeled two different vars. of the armor however, and who has the man time for that?? Lmao

It can also be a negative side effect when armors are stored inside of a cryotube for a longer duration.

Nano tech changed it in cryo, but its still Mark VI. And ya that opening cut scene was amazing except for that canon error.
