who would win? it is pretty clear palmer is the toughest of the new spartans and i think the series is gearing up to replace the chief with her
I haven’t seen Commander Palmer do anything which makes her the “toughest” Spartan-IV. Master Chief isn’t even the best or toughest Spartan-II, he’s just well rounded. For example, Linda is a better Sniper and Kelly is faster.
After all the hate Palmer has got I think 343 would be downright idiots to try to replace Chief with her.
What evidence do you have for Palmer being the toughest? Just because she’s the leader doesn’t mean she’s the best fighter. Just means she has the leadership capabilities required. Chief has 20-30 years combat experience behind him and superior genetics as well as those very same leadership capabilities that caused him to become the de-facto leader of the Spartan IIs. I HIGHLY doubt Palmer has the experience or skill in combat that Chief has.
Oh, I’m just waiting for Palmer to be John’s new partner.

That picture made me laugh the first time I saw it and again just now.
You’re talking about the man who blew up Halos, a Covenant command post, and an Ark, talked to the Gravemind, punched a Prophet to death and zapped a Monitor, fell out of orbit multiple times, and handed the Didact a new one compared to some huff-and-puff chick who couldn’t even accurately shoot an unarmed civilian 10 feet away.
The sadistic side of me would love to watch the super nova of pure rage and disappointment that would follow 343’s attempt at replacing Chief with Palmer. My lore-loving side would probably force me to induce a coma via overdose or something, though.
OT: Chief would wreck Palmer so fast she wouldn’t have even have a chance to fire her pistol and miss.

The Master Chief wins without a doubt.
Given the events of Spartan Ops, I totally want to see this happen. I can see a scenario in an upcoming game where the Chief turns on ONI and Palmer with a team of Spartan IVs are sent to kill him. It would also be a great way to show just how much better Spartan IIs are than IVs.
Considering how blithering incompetent Sarah Palmer is, even in the scope of the at-times questionable UNSC, she likely trips over her own boots and somehow, hilariously is ended by a gruesome death involving tentacles, an iambic pentameter speaking god-plant, and My Little Pony: Friendship Is A Test Of The Mantle.

Realistically… The Chief… The only way Palmar would have a chance is if she has superior armor and possibly better genetic manipulation. But even that does not make up for the fact that Chief could have an A.I in him making his movement faster and his decades of training and experience.

343 even said that they’d never lose the main focus on Chief, so I don’t know what people are getting so worked up about.
Spartan IV’s literally aren’t anything compared to Spartan II’s and III’s

I think they might be close to being on par with them in terms of combat skills. I mean, they are highly experienced, highly skilled, augmented super soldiers. These guys were the best of the best (Besides the god-like Spartans) before they became Spartans. They were the SAS and Navy Seals of the UNSC. True badasses. It’s just that 343’s portrayal of them so far has been piss poor. They haven’t had the chance to prove their badassery.
Of course their character’s aren’t as interesting because they’re just normal people turned Spartans rather than dehumanised child soldiers. They’d also lack the savant-like skills that the IIs and IIIs have such as Kurt’s “funny feelings”, Linda’s sniping abilities, Fred’s skill with combat knives (And pretty much everything else considering he’s the IIs second best sniper and came second in all the other competitions), Kelly’s speed (Including her extremely fast reaction times, even for a Spartan) and Dante’s ability to tell when an explosive will detonate etc. Kat, Joshua and Mike are also said to have savant-like abilities in hacking and electronics.
