Ever Since The Reveal Trailer for Halo 4 came out massive confusion has been spread about “what the hell has happened to master chief?”, well ever since the trailer has came out I have believed that he modified his armor in some way but since a lot of people are stil confused i’m going to give the low down on what happened to the master chief’s armor.
So between the end of halo 3 and start of halo 4, the timespan has been 4 years and a couple of months making the year 2557, Over that period of time Cortana has been secluded in the darkness of the wreakage of the forward unto dawn to ponder ways of improving chief’s armor and HUD, She has used special nanites to upgrade chief HUD and armor, but you may ask why has chief’s armor changed and why does he still bear the scars from his crash at the beginning of halo 3?
First thing - why has Cortana Changed Chief’s armor and why has 343i taken this into account with the story and gameplay of halo 4?
Answer - Chief In Halo 4 is a more Athletic and mobily spartan than the previous halo games and will be exploring big, wild terrians while he is on the surface of requiem, Chief needs his armor to be changed due to the manueuvers he will be pulling off within the game, take the motion capture suits being used in Vidoc - First look halo 4, did you see the maneuvers being pulled off by that guy, you will need armor which provides a lot of movability to do actions like that and this is the reason chief’s armor has been changed and fits in with the canon perfectly
Second Thing - Why does chief still bears the scars from previous halo games, why didn’t 343i think of removing those features?
Answer - Well thats is what defines a spartan/the chief truly in the halo series, at the beginning of halo 3 chief landed from the sky from the forerunner dreadnought and bears the scars and damage on his armor and live on and what about on incidents the chief has probably had, chief probably still bears the scars on his armor somehow, but this truely defines what spartans are… super soliders, who will stand in the face of death to persue their goals.

Sorry OP but youre wrong. She DID NOT change his armor, only the software or firmware or whatever, but not hardware or the armor itself.

Exactly. Why can’t people accept this. It is a new company creating Halo, there will be artistic changes. Not to mention graphical design usually changes anyway in later games thanks to tech that can allow more little details.
Without a source to back this up, it might as well be false. Cortana only updated the software, not the armor itself. Reason for the different looks is because 343i makes Chief in their image, not Bungie’s image. It has been 5 years since Halo 3, OFCOURSE there will be major changes.

Updated with a source with a quote which was taken directly from source itself to back up my evidence that this could be a possiblity in why chief’s armor has changed between the course of halo 3 and 4 and it has nothing to do with just updating him graphical, it has everything to do with the fiction that is behind the armor change

That reason is probably graphical the only thing truly different about the armor is the Cod piece other than that it is just the most recent adaptation of mark VI. You seriously shouldn’t be wishing for a new suit since he just got mark VI.
I agree. The armor is more fitting now with the book canon actually. Even Fall of Reach and First Strike describe the armor more like the armor in Halo 4, which is how I originally imagined it.

The reason’s aren’t Graphically, Chief’s are has Undergone changes fictionally and if you bothered to click the link and read the source then maybe you would have seen this quote as well “maybe the Chief has been out of that cryotube already” this is another quote which backs up the point of it linking to the fictional aspects of the change of his armor.

That just proves that the person who wrote the article has no idea what they’re talking about.
Cortana only changed his Fireware (that’s why his HUD looks different). His armour it the Mark VI armour he went to sleep with, just with graphical updates (Just like the Pillar of Autumn in Halo CE/Reach).
