Please don’t back track on Master Chief’s look. Halo 4 and 5 nailed an updated look. I don’t understand the rationale in going back to a 20 y/o look; his helmet is also woefully undersized.
I didn’t mind the H4/5 models… but I really love the Chief we saw in the Infinite trailer. Sweet as.
I’m torn on my opinion of the newer character model (heck my profile picture on here is from H4, so I do like it for the most part)… but I think most of the issue comes from how abrupt the change was. Had 343 eased the fan base into the new design, it may have been better received. A quirky YouTuber named Act Man suggested that it may have been better if H4 started with Chief as his H3 character model with H3 weapons… then once he linked up with the Infinity, he got his updated Gen2 armor and started using the newer weapon designs. The transition would have made logical and even temporal sense.
I am totally in favor of the Gen3 design, but I’m willing to admit I can appreciate the Gen2 ideas that 343 tried to implement in H4 and H5. The armor is beefier and bulkier. It looks like it can take on a tank in a wrestling match, as it should. On the other hand, the Gen1 designs are more sleek and slender, which feel more futuristic and high-tech. All of this to say that I prefer the Gen3 design because it somehow has bridged the gap between the streamlined design of Gen1 and the more durable design of Gen2.

Although I did I liked halo 4/5 masterchief’s Armor, I’d still prefer the new model over it any time of the day
I think that chief in Infinite is his best design.
I loved the more updated look in 4/5, not that the original was bad, but I just felt like 4/5 Chief just looked like a super soldier from the future. Bungie’s look was good for the earlier generation, but I dunno.
An optimistic me wishes people could have their choice of aesthetic, but a more realistic me knows that they’re going to go with the design we saw because they’re trying to reign the community new and old by going with a more Bungie like design while adding their own touches. Either way it doesn’t bother me, I just prefer 4 and 5 design, won’t ruin my thoughts on the game though.
As someone else mentioned, I feel like if we were eased into it it may have been better received. At the very least if it was going to be there from the start, a better explanation other than being forced in some kind of interview or post that Cortana is the reason the armor looks different would have been better than well…yeah. That honestly should have been one of the few things they discussed when bringing in a new design team. If their artistic style was going to change, thus changing the armor, then an explanation that is lore friendly should have been kind of high on the priority list.
The Chief in the Infinite trailer looked like a mix between old and young Halos. The helmet looks like a more modernized Mark VI armor (Halo 2 & 3), which I totally love. I’m a huge Halo 2 fan.
I didn’t hate the 4/5 look, but I much prefer the classic design. Infinite’s mjolnir looks top notch IMO
There’s literally no chance of them reverting to the 4/5 chief at this point. I had to check the date on the post.
I don’t mind them going for a more classic design, but I feel like the infinite armor is shall we say ‘too’ classic. Like it doesn’t feel like a next generation of armor, but a remaster of his 2/3 armor.
That said, while 4/5 had some horrendous armor designs, I really dug the 4/5 chief. Something you can move in, but still bulky.

Likely. I don’t think 343 realized how controversial the change would be for the fanbase. Not to mention creating a set of models just to be classic styled for like 1/3 of the game would have been pricey.
I see I’m in the minority but I HATED the Halo 4/5 Chief armor. I was so relieved when the first trailer came out and I saw a more Halo 2/3 helmet. I think Infinite’s design for the armor has looked great, I’m glad they’re going for the classic look.
I don’t know. I kinda missed the old bungie design. 343 nailed it with the mark vi gen 3 armor that chief wears in infinite
I love the Halo 4/5 Chief armor (except the cracked visor) and Infinite one
The Master Chief’s MJOLNIR armor in HALO INFINITE is perfect.
His armor in HALO 4&5 is just too “busy” looking - like it was crafted from old, decommissioned military Jeep parts🤷🏻♂️
My favorite was how Chief’s armor looked in the Infinite reveal trailer back in 2018, even if it was just a short glimpse. I wish 343 had stuck with that design.
Honestly, I just can’t unsee how small his head is now…
Have to disagree. The armours of 4 and 5 felt too cluttered. Glad they changed the design since the figure I got of the Infinite design looks amazing while the 4/5 designs were underwhelming.

You aren’t in the minority.

The new isn’t bad in terms of design but it was only created to nail that Nostalgic look, it not bad as I will yet again but its bland and very basic. Halo 4 and 5 armor design where a more realistic take could have being stream line and some created by a military force 500 years in the future but nice. It’s going to be hard to nail modern design if playing on pandering to Nostalgic isnt Going to pass.
It’s kinda a bit late to switch it back. Personally, they hit the nail on the head with his new design. It’s a perfect combo of the tanky and classic look. I liked the H4/H5 look for what it was. The Infinite design isn’t even 20 years old, one or two elements might be borrowed from Halo 2’s armor, but that’s it really.
For the campaign, just keep the helmet from halo 2-3. But I think, they should allow you to use the updated version in multiplayer
