Would you ever want Chief to take off his helmet and reveal his whole face? What if it were the ending?
No i wouldnt. I’d hate if that would happen.
Weirdly enough his helmet is his ‘face’ for me.
This question is almost as old as the Halo online community…my answer remains what it always was: No.
The ‘power’ of Chief as a character is that he is a blank enough slate to make you feel like you’re him. Sure, there is a lot of lore surrounding him and we’ve been told what he looks like. Plus we had a little sneak peak in H4…but he essentially looks like Darth Vader without the helmet…not the epic reveal you expect. On the contrary: his looks will just disappoint I think.
We’ve seen his face pre and post-augmentations on more than one occasion already.
I’ve seen enough that I’m fine with that. His helmet and armor is the chief to me. Especially since it’s about a super solider I don’t need a soap opera where the chief tries to discover his humanity. Playing the games/reading the books/watching the videos and shows played out I have a connection with the chief I feel would be broken with a face reveal
Personally feel its long overdue - but done briefly (like once).

We already know what the Chief looks like. It was shown at the end of this video made by the late great Monty Oum.
Do I want to see his face in game ? No, it’s not needed imo.
No sir. The mystery of not knowing what he looks like is part of his character.
Is this not the third or fourth time this thread was created by someone? Lol.
No. I don’t. Although, if you want to know what is, in fact, behind the helmet, ask Marcus Lehto. Currently he is Studio Head of V1 Interactive. But he is very active on Twitter and comments on Halo’s stuff all the time! (To give an idea of who he is, he is the Chief’s father. AKA Designer/Artist. Marty is like that awesome Uncle you love.)
No. Master Chief is the legend among legends, a Spartan II. His image is that he’s this inhuman, un-killable, greek god; the Covenant calls him demon, the UNSC know that the battle is won when he appears. I understand that canonically, some people see his face (although I don’t think that’s a whole lot), but the idea is that it instills this feeling in the player and those who haven’t seen the face that proves he’s human. Taking his helmet off would represent him becoming more human, which is what the player shouldn’t feel while playing as Chief- it both dents the power fantasy and Master Chief as this legendary character.
This is what Halo 4 got so stupidly wrong. He is not human.
I would also like to add another opinion. I play Ninja Gaiden, they revealed Ryu Hayabusa’s face in Ninja Gaiden 3 The Razors Edge, it took all the mystery surrounding and my imagination of him away. We all have our vision of what Chief looks like, if they reveal his face it would ruin our individual imagery imo. Also, if the community at large didn’t like it there would be hell to pay.
Having said that. This is what he looks like.
I would prefer if he didn’t take his helmet off. I think everyone in the Halo community knows that his helmet is his identity
