Master Chief can't be solo for long

As we all know Bonnie Ross said that Master Chief was starting to question authority after Halo 4. We also know that the UNSC doesn’t know where he is. I believe that Master Chief will only be solo for a maximum of three missions and here’s why:

  1. UNSC weapons. They couldn’t possibly have a Halo game where you don’t get to regularly use UNSC weapons. Where would Master Chief get these if he’s solo? It worked in Halo 4 because the Forward Unto Dawn spread weapons everywhere when it was falling into Requiem. Master Chief continued getting weapons once the Infinity showed up in mission 4. So basically there will have to be a UNSC prescence in order to keep Master Chief’s weapons stocked.

  2. Marines and Vehicular Combat. A Halo game without a Warthog would be ridiculous. Having Marine AI companions is a staple of the Halo franchise. So the UNSC obviously has to link up with Chief at some point to provide Marine companions.

  3. Master Chief is a hero to most of the UNSC. Why is Master Chief questioning authority? In Halo 4 the only person in the UNSC to not fully support the Chief is Captain Del Rio. Everyone else is loyal. Palmer refuses to arrest him, Lasky gives him the pelican, and Fleetcom removes Del Rio from the Infinity after learning about what happened.

The only reason for Chief to go AWOL is if he discovers a threat that the UNSC ignores (despite Chief being right about everything so far) or if Halsey is needed and ONI still wants her dead. in which case Master Chief is only going against ONI, not the UNSC.

  1. The Didact is likely a part of the threat. In concept covers for Halo Escalation we see Master Chief in what appears to be a war torn human city and we see another where he is fighting the Didact. If the Didact is a threat again why wouldn’t the UNSC help Master Chief? They already know he is a threat after he attacked Earth.

  2. The Flood is very likely to be the threat. As others have said the only threat that could put the entire galaxy’s lives at stake is the flood. We also see a flood infection form on the Spirit of Fire in Halo Escalation. The UNSC knows what a threat the Flood is after Halo 3 so why would Chief have to go AWOL in order to fight it?

Now the only way around this is if you play as Chief in half the missons and play as Locke in the other half. I think this a strong possibilty considering that in the first Halo 5: Guardians image Locke is on top of the logo and Master Chief is on the bottom.

We also know that Locke is starring in Halo Nightfall. In the Halo Nightfall description it says that a rising star in the UNSC starts to question authority. I believe that even though it is Lockes’ mission to find Master Chief he will ultimately end up siding with him.

So basically Master Chief can’t be solo for long unless they have a big emphasis on playing as Locke. It doesn’t really make sense for Master Chief to go AWOL without atleast some UNSC personnel assisting him. Now if we do play as Locke this will solve most of these problems but I still can’t imagine the Chief missions having no UNSC weapons, vehicles or Marines.

What do you guys think?

It could be that you play as Locke part of the time.
Or if Chief is on the ark, there could be Halo 3 UNSC stuff for him to use.
Or he is breaking into some UNSC place and gets weapons from there.
There are a lot of possibilities. I don’t know what to even think. I am just hyped. :3

They’ll find some way of bringing him a companion even if it comes through the Arbiter. Locke is the primary companion of choice probably especially when you base it off the H5 cover, like you said. Good points.

Or John-117 steals a classified ship stocked with UNSC gear and vehicles, and goes on a great open world odyssey.

And the ship has a babbling AI that we’ve met before in three of the games…
