What this means is that master chief is finally going to show some emotion.

His new armor and missing pieces is probably was the doing of cortna updating his armor between halo 3 then origins and now it is halo 4. she was not done updating his armor do on the acount of the foward unto dwn blowing up, that probably explains guanlits, not jet pack thruster, and not finshed cod piece.

his regretts as to how he failed to save sgt.johnson by trusting gultiy spark, miranda keys by not getting there in time to save her, captin keys and how he should of been there before the flood got him to proto gravmind and then killing him.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Chief show a little emotion here and there to better develop his character, but I don’t want him to suddenly not be able to shut up. Part of the reason Master Chief is such a phenomenal icon is because he’s a mostlysilent badass. The few words he says have deep meaning.
His behavior will be different considering he isn’t trying to save humanity. He’s probably gonna be trying to save himself and Cortana and unlock the secrets of this new world. Without the thought of saving the human race in the back of his head I’m sure he might act a bit differently. Maybe a little cocky/selfish? 0.o Nah he <3’s his little blue AI too much to be selfish.
Cortana is not rampant because she has the mission of keeping John alive. A.I.s think themselves to death, but she is not gaining any new data. She is simply single minded on that the Master Chief must survive no matter what. He is not going to be mad about Captain Keyes dying 5 or so years after it happened. He has had a long time to ponder this and I doubt his behavioral changes are due to things that happened so long ago. Sure he is upset, but not to the point where it will drive him mad because he has to keep Cortana alive. It’s a perfect circle of two.
to anyone who says john never talks…please read the novels, he talks all the time, mostly to himself or cortana but he does talk. bungie was just really bat at interpreting his personality

I’m pretty sure Bungie didn’t convey much about the MC’s personality so it’s easier for the player to step into his shoes. Personally, I think that’s silly. I don’t want to play me in a Halo game, I want to play the character provided, i.e. Master Chief.
I don’t like him to talk too much. Chief hsould be a mostly silent hero that say his words in action. but 343 can improve his personality in some ways, without transforming him to a chatter box actually !
I think that Cortana will ‘die’ at some point in the new trilogy if not in Halo 4. She is clearly heavily damaged, she only just survived the time spent with the gravemind.
What I think this means, by “change in behavior” is not necessarily a mental breakdown, but a change in how he acts compared to previous titles. In Halo 4, the main characters, or perhaps ONLY “human” characters will be Cortana and John. Because of this, John needs to be a larger character emotionally and verbally, to be able to carry the plot without support characters. But that’s just my two cents. I doubt we will see a mental breakdown as a cause of the Spartan program itself, but perhaps other things like the death of all of his friends, will start to take its toll.
Maybe he’ll be all the game saying “When I was young…”

I hope he doesn’t change that much, because the reason why (most of) we love him is that he’s that silent and strong type. That lets you get into his super-soldier’s skin as a cool guy who kills aliens and doesn’t afraid of anything…
Don’t know if you know that feeling I’m talking about, but it’s a cool one.

The Mark VII (the new armor the Spartan IVs wear) is capable of this. The Mark VI is not.
As for the characters behavior, i hope it starts to reflect the constant battle he’s had in life and the toll it’s taking on him. Not being a whiny baby or anything but…maybe world-weary. Anyone would after all the action he’s seen.
343 should definitely play on what Cortana means to the Chief. There is obviously something there between the two even though she’s just an AI. Chief views her more than just lines of code or a piece of equipment to used and discarded when no longer useful.
Someone he cares about and when she finally does go rampant, this should hit the Chief hard that he’s losing her. Someone who was once one the very few things in his life that was constant is now going -Yoink- crazy and may have to destroy her.
