Master Chief a traitor somehow in Halo Infinite?

Before Halo 5 released, 343 has hinted in Halo 5 that Chief is a traitor. But in the actual game he’s never labeled as a traitor, I would find it interesting if they went back to that. There has been theories where Cortana was infected by the Logic Plague, maybe Cortana could infect Chief too?

I very doubt that considering she hasn’t been inside his armor since 4 and also its not confirmed she has the logic plague that’s just a popular theory also even more doubtful since his armor changed again

I don’t think that would make much sense. For one thing, Chief would not go full “traitor” against humanity of his own accord, not even for Cortana (going AWOL temporarily is not the same). Considering the state of the galaxy, it behooves everyone to form a united front against Cortana.

I personally hate the “Cortana logic plague” theory, but even if it’s true, she wouldn’t be able to pass it on to the Chief. The only biological lifeform we know of who was affected by the plague was the Ur-Didact. He got it from interacting directly with a Gravemind. He didn’t pass it on to other Forerunners after he returned. The only time we’ve seen transmission of the plague without direct interaction with a Gravemind was at the peak of the Forerunner-Flood War, when the Flood was at a stage where it had many Keyminds throughout the galaxy. At that point, AI infected with the plague could infect other AI they came into contact with. But this was just between AI. No AI ever passed the plague onto a living being.

So there are two reasons why your idea wouldn’t make sense. 1) the Flood is not currently at the stage to support spreading the advanced form of the logic plague. 2) there has never been a recorded case of an AI transmitting the logic plague to a biological lifeform.

I think 343 missed that story opportunity in Halo 5. Something really weird happened, seemed they had more of a plan with campaign then just had to do lazy stuff instead.

There was a rewrite at a point late in development.

That seems to be the common assumption, although 343i deny this.

I seriously doubt they would go down that route again after floating the idea in Halo 5’s marketing and then churning out that enormous blunder of a game afterward. If they were going the traitor route, Halo 5 was the best point in which they could have done it.

Remember 343 did a horrible job pushing that story… “Hunt the Truth”… Such an awesome tape/recording/digital download… But it had almost nothing to do with the game. Like they (343) barely connected the game and those tapes together. Such a failed opportunity.

Master Chief is the hero. And the hero goes against the “orders” given to them in order to do what is right. The whole “going rogue” storyline was just bs and a hard sell.

There is the assumption that 5 had a massive request rewrite. It makes sense considering that there were so many things pointing to a spy thriller type of story. I think it had to be a rewrite.

A rewrite makes sense because Hunt the Truth had almost no relationship to the actual game. If they had followed the Hunt the Truth story, H5 would have been a lot better and a much easier sell.

I remember them saying it was supposed to be the darkest Halo game. I was expecting a lot death and betrayal.

Agreed. There was certainly a way to do it and they seemed to have the perfect setup in HTT. Too bad they botched it.

Halo games darker than Halo 5:
Halo CE
Halo 2
Halo 3
Halo Wars
Halo 3: ODST
Halo Reach
Halo 4
Halo Wars 2

I don’t think there’s working human government to judge anyone as s traitor.

They already passed their chance at a good ‘traitor’ plot with halo 5.

Chief siding with Cortana, ‘corrupted’ or otherwise, is just a perfectly good way to ruin his character, much like they already have Cortana.

Sad, but true. Halo 5 had so much potential for an epic story.

Chief punching a hole through Captain Keyes head makes me agree with Halo one being the darkest. Reach was the grittiest though next to ODST I liked the grimy art style.

They missed their chance of a “traitor” plot element with 5. I don’t ever want to see it again. Whatever 343’s intentions had been, it was a poor delivery and the general Halo populace has made it very well known, I’m sure. A traitor Chief just won’t happen.

The only remote chance of something like that happening is something that was alluded to within the very first minute of Halo 5’s opening: that ONI is going to be terrified after all that had happened and will wish for not only the deaths of Cortana and Halsey but possibly the Chief and Blue Team in order to regain control and make sure that something like this will never happen again. 'Cause ONI. However, I expect that to blow up in their face if it does happen.

Cortana was the traitor in Halo 5. Everything we thought was hinted at about chief can be see in Cortana in Halo 5

This may be a bit off the center here for this thread, but did i miss something?

we see in the demo at the end chief putting what i assumed to be Cortana back in. or is that a different AI?
