Massive disappointment in the campaign

From all the trailers I’ve watched since the announcement of Halo 5 stated that Master Chief was being chased by Spartan Locke because he committed some kind of massive crime against the UNSC. However the actual campaign shows us that he just forgot to sign the exit slip before he went chasing after Cortana.
This was a massive disappointment for me, as I imagined something more serious that would cause the UNSC and the humanity to fall. You know, something like the trailers foreshadowed to us.
In the trailers there were destroyed buildings, people running for safety and the infamous Master Chief statue that both Spartan Locke and Master Chief had the chance to sit beneath. If you’ve played the campaign yourself, you’ll know that statues is nowhere to be seen, nor most of the features shown in the trailer.
I feel like they could’ve implemented at least some aspects of storytelling into the campaign to make it more “interesting”. I also feel like they put too much effort into the multiplayer(but don’t get me wrong, they did a fantastic job with that,) and not enough in the campaign.
Of course, Halo is more than just campaign. It’s about gameplay and social experience with other players around the world, and Halo 5 excels in those categories. But I’ll never be able to get rid of that feeling I got from finishing the campaign. The feeling I like to call: “-Yoink- campaign”.

Has any Halo trailer ever been related to the actual campaign? Not really.

This was no surprise to me this time around, as it hasn’t been with past Halo trailers and games.

The hunt was really overblown in the trailer and #huntthetruth with the Chief being labeled a traitor and everything, but that aside, I still am really happy with the campaign. I just would have liked more Chief levels.

True that, maybe it’s my fault for over-hyping myself.

I thought the campaign was good.

Please stop defending it.

Yeah, I understand what marketing is, but there’s exaggerating elements of the the story, and then there’s making the game simply completely different in the trailer to how it actually is!

The trailer made the game look like it was primarily about the rivalry between locke and master chief.

That had little to do with the game!

Sorry, but you can’t have master chief and locke lying almost dead about to be killed by one another in the trailer, and claim “it’s just how marketing works”.

This goes beyond marketing to just completely misleading people.

343 pulled a Destiny. False advertising.

It’s not really defending it, but rather just looking a the facts.

  • Halo 3: Had a brute chieftain holding master chief in the air. Did it ever happen? NO
  • Halo 3 ODST: Had troopers running through bootcamp, then dropped onto a battlefield. Did it ever happen? NO
  • Halo Reach: Had old Noble 6 running a nuke up to the ship. Did it ever happen? NO

I think it had a great campaign def one of the best looking graphics plus the gameplay was fun

Sorry, but there’s a bit of a difference there.

The halo games you mentioned didn’t have trailers so blatant in their message as to what the game was going to be about. The halo 3 trailer that you’re referring to - Yeah, brute chieftain didn’t hold up master chief at any point in the game, same as the trailer where master chief throws down the bubble shield wasn’t about any part of the actual game.

They’re call teaser trailers. But those trailers didn’t mislead us into believing that there’d be a completely different goal or story line in the game. They didn’t prepare us for something that was never going to happen.

The halo 3 trailers really didn’t tell us a whole lot about the story. They were interesting trailers that basically said “finish the fight”.

Halo 5 couldn’t have been more blatant in it’s message, and it was completely misleading.

Well then I’ll call out Halo 3 for blatantly misleading gamers, and Halo 3 is my favorite of them all.

Did we technically finish the fight? We’re still playing Halo games that take place after Halo 3, aren’t we?

As far as I see it from that logic Halo 3 lied to me about finishing the fight, just how you see Halo 5 lying to you about the big hunt.

Actually, they didn’t lie

We did finish the fight. THAT fight. And, at the time, most of bungie thought that was the end. It’s not their fault that some members of the company formed 343 and decided to make more halo games.

Halo 4 and beyond are about a different fight.

There are still Covenant in the following games, so the first fight was never finished. Hell we just saw the Arbiter finish off the Covenant once and for all in Halo 5.

So really we can thank Halo 5 for finally finishing the fight.

Nope, that fight is done and finished. Human-Covenant war stopped being a thing in 2553.

It wasn’t just the dual trailers though. They blatantly lied when explaining what the story is about and what kinds of themes it’s going to explore.

Listen to the first minute of this video. How much of what Frank talked about was actually in Halo 5?

Finishing the fight doesn’t mean that every threat in the game’s universe has been vanquished.

The fight was finished in Halo 3. Halo 4 starts a new fight.

Bungie did the same thing with Reach. If you look at many of their videos, there is too much content that was cut from the final game. As far as I see it Halo 5 was as normal of a release as any past Halo.

If the fight was finished the Master Chief would be chilling as some beach with a margarita in hand. He is still fighting, so his fight, whether it be an old or new one, was never finished.

The series was over at Halo 3 with Bungie if you paid attention. But Microsoft wanted to keep making more Halo games to have an incentive for players to buy more Xbox consoles so they formed 343i while Bungie moved on to new projects. A few from Bungie wanted to stay with Halo so they moved to 343i. Halo 3 was fine where it ended because you did finish the fight. The war was over. Those teaser trailers were by no means misleading.
However, every single trailer by Halo 5 revolved around a hunt concerning a treacherous Master Chief and the hunter Agent Locke. The full official trailer was no different. Hunt the Truth overhyped the campaign. In 343i videos when they discuss the Halo 5 story they talk about this epic rivalry between Locke and Chief and how Blue Team was practically family.
But we witnessed no character development with Blue Team. They hardly communicated. They were hardly in the campaign. Locke’s team was bland to the fullest. Only Buck had a personality and we know him from Halo 3 ODST, but who are these other newbies who think they can capture four Spartan IIs with Master Chief at the lead?
In the end, we got a simple fistfight between Locke and Chief in slow motion.
Also, the plot was slightly predictable.

Wrong. If you paid attention you would remember Half-Jaw asking the Arbiter if their homeworld was safe at the end of Halo 3. There was still a threat after the events of Halo 3, which Halo 5 addressed with the Sangheili Civil War.
