Massive 41GB update before play

I recently purchased a new XBOX 1 console (1TB) and Halo 5 game… after installing the console updates (1.6GB) I installed the game from disc and found I had to do a 41GB (yes 41 Gigabytes) update in order to play the game. This is unacceptable that such an update is required for a single game!
I got onto support with Microsoft and was eventually told to ‘suck it up and do the download’ (I have the transcript of the conversation) and no one thought anything was wrong to warrant such a huge update. I have a 4mb line (South Africa has a monopolized and very expensive internet) luckily my plan is uncapped and it took almost 36 hours to finish… I only hope my service provider does not throttle my service because of this.
I would like to know a few things:
Why was the update so big? (Please don’t tell me about graphics and requirements etc… I get that…)
If such patching was required… maybe the game was released too early?
If such a big patch is required, why, every 6 months are updated release discs are not set out and old one pulled off the shelves) alternately, updated discs are sent out and attached to the original box when sold?
I think this is a blatant disregard on the company’s part, that they expect the customer to download such a big update for a game. There are no excuses… I would have accepted 1 or 2GB update… raised my eyebrows at 5GB and scoffed at 10GB… but 41GB… c’mon guys / gals… someone has slipped up badly here!!
In the same vein, the game has just finished loading… and consumed around 80GB of my 1TB drive… that means I can only load 8 or 9 games max on my console. So if I ever decide to load more than that… i will have to remove a game (Halo 5) then if I want to play it again, I’ll have to reinstalled with another 41GB (or greater upload)… something isn’t right!
Any joy and pleasure I had in purchasing my new Xbox has now been replaced with regret!
Can anyone point me in the right direction on who I can raise this with?
Thanks
KG

The reason for such a large download is because it encompasses all the updates and bug fixes that have been released for Halo 5 since it launched. From release though to July there was at least 1 large, themed, content update every month - you can look through the community updates in the News section for details and patch notes. A lot of these updates included loads of new REQs and Forge items, new maps, game modes and various patches for exploits. One of the biggest was the Warzone Figrefight addition back in July.

While releasing updated discs sounds good in theory it’s not really practical from a business sense and the company would end up losing money out of it than gaining really. You’ll have surplus discs that aren’t up to date that will never sell. With the push towards digital content, discs aren’t likely to be around anyways at some point.
