Cortana’s line about Chief possibly getting a new “Cortana-model” AI in Halo 4 has stuck with him lately after its use in another thread about Cortana being revived. Ignoring that topic, do you think this line may carry some foreshadowing? Thus far we haven’t seen anything regarding potential “Cortana-models” of AI, but I suppose if any AI was to get its own line, it would be Cortana. If such AIs were to exist, do you think that they may end up in the hands of Spartan-IVs?
I see no reason to suggest they couldn’t have AIs to enhance their abilities like Chief and Naomi (briefly for a time) did. Using Cortana as a jumping off point could be seen as a benefit given her legacy and connection to Chief, a big time hero to humanity. I doubt such mass produced AIs would have half the personality of Cortana, perhaps being more “robotic” and utilitarian in nature.
Frankly I figure it is only a matter of time. The Librarian planned for the Chief and Cortana, but I don’t think they are meant to be the end result. The Spartan-IVs seem to be the followup to Chief, so is it not safe to say new AIs for the S-IVs would not follow as well? If so, what do you think the impact these creations may have on the overall story? Could their possibly be new moral ramifications, after all we don’t know if the remaining brains Halsey cloned from her own brain are still around, just waiting to be put to use by ONI. What could the reaction from Chief be if he was paired with one of these Mass Produced Cortana Models?
Sorry if this seems like a rambling on my part, I just want to get the idea out there.
I don’t think that mass producing Cortana modeled AI would ever happen. The idea is solid enough, that she was very close to Earth’s greatest hero and the same effect she had on him could be transferred to SIVs but I don’t think it would actually work like that. Especially, given the fact that they’d be less charismatic and more robot-like, as you said. I think mass producing Smart AIs as a whole and matching them with each Spartan’s individual personality would have more benefit. It would take a page out of RvB’s play book with Project Freelancer parring each Freelancer with an AI based on their personality but the concept is more sound than mass producing one AI and, potentially, bringing shame to one of Halo’s most iconic characters.
When you work with people (or in this case, AI) that you actually like, you tend to be more effective and get great results.
Cortana isn’t really that special; what made her special was the Forerunner knowledge (small) she had aquire and her infiltration skills and the cloning AIs she had aquire from a covenant AI (which isn’t all that special anymore as modern UNSC AIs can do it BB for example).
Cortana was a Gen 3 AI while BB is a Gen 4 and Roland a Gen 5 AI. Cortana has become outdated technology. Maybe she could have been upgraded if she was still around.
What she meant as a Cortana AI I think she was referring to another Cortana. Using Halsey brain cells to make another AI with similar qualities to her but not her. More sophisticated with advances made maybe even increasing the life span but not Cortana personally a clone a mirror image but not her. Sad I guess for an AI with a life span of that of a guinea pig.
If the Chief does get another AI acting as a replacement for Cortana I can see some sort of resentment towards it. I doubt its going to be a Cortana model unless they had Halsey brain cells laying around.
i could see the higher ranking s4 getting some sort of ai but not mass produced, they can never reach their full potential if they are handed an ai right after becoming spartans,
what sets cortana apart is just she’s a uniqe ai that thinks out of the box. because of halsey.
she’s sort of like destiny weapons, normal ai are just legendary stuff but cortana she’s an exotic.
But how would that even work? A bunch of dumb AIs based off of Cortana’s personality?
Assuming its not a situation unique to infinity crews, I think the mission handler set up may be the SIV equivellant of having A.I. This to me seems stupid and wastefull (a fully augmented SIV clad in Mjolnir who just states the obvious and opens doors - stupid…unless they themselves utilise some super integrated A.I that requires being a suited up Spartan?). It would be handy for spartans to at least have dumb A.I’s. I don’t think mass producing Cortana A.I would work superficially at least - i think they would change voice,name,colour,gender etc to make themselves unique.

Cortana’s already getting mass-produced as a dumb AI.
Besides, Cortana copies floating around everywhere would likely drive the Master Chief insane.
I honestly wonder if Halsey replicated the process she used to create Cortana, WOULD this new AI assume the personality and avatar of Cortana? Contact Harvest stated that a Smart AI retains a fragment of a memory of its original person after creation, so if the new AI had a different memory fragment, it could potentially develop a completely different personality and identity.
I think she was using the term just as a general description of herself. I suppose its possible, but, correct me if I’m wrong, wasn’t Cortana created from the flash cloning of Halsey’s brain several times? And it also produced Kalmya if I remember correctly. After the Kilo 5 fiasco I don’t think flash cloning the organ that essentially creates life would be too welcome.
We also have to remember that Halsey was part of what made Cortana so special, and without Halsey they can’t really mass produce an AI variant based on her brain when she’s in the care of an alien warlord in hiding.
Dunno. Unless Halsey has a few more of her cloned brains lying around, we may not get another Cortana, let alone one as good as the original.
