I loved Marty O’ Donnell’s soundtrack for halo 1,2,3,ODST, and reach. All his music has been extraordinary and has always defined halo. He has made the music for all the halos except for 4 and 5. Halo 4’s music was mediocre and halo 5’s doesn’t sound much better.
You guys should have hired him for halo 5, it would have made a lot of fans happy and would have returned a lot of the halo feeling to halo 5. You guys aren’t bungie, you would have had no problem hiring him. I’ve never played destiny, but I heard the track he made for that game was incredible. It’s gonna be a shame because I can already tell halo 5’s music is going to be terrible.
NOTE: don’t comment on this forum and talk about how 343 is ruining halo, I don’t wanna hear that crap. If people want to see that, they can go on a thread that rants about 343.
Halo 4’s soundtrack was pretty generic, and I can see that this is the direction Halo 5’s soundtrack is going as well. But you do have to cut them some slack because they’re being asked to match or top Marty O’Donnell of all people. However, it doesn’t seem like they’re trying to
For sure.
If the menu music in the beta is indicative of what the entire soundtrack will be similar to, then I’m already disappointed.

Yep, nothing but trumpets is what I heard

Basically, but I do like the slow “nighttime”-sounding song with the sub-bass drops. But it’s still not very Halo-sounding at all, and the other song is extremely painfully generic.
Halo 4’s menu music was actually close to Marty quality, but the rest of Halo 4’s soundtrack was meh.
I think Kazuma Jinnouchi knows what he’s doing.

Agreed, I actually really liked the menu music for 4; thought it was awesome. But like you said the rest was very forgettable.

I still remember halo CE’s main theme to this day, I can only remember 1 song from halo 4. It’s the one on the main menu where this African lady sings or something lol
What? are you telling me this isn’t epic? http://youtu.be/IPT7rtxDdxM?t=1m34s
I’m pretty sure Kazuma Jinnouchi knows what he’s doing, his tracks from halo 4 were the most memorable after all.
I’m with you
Only truly Halo sounding track on Halo 4 was of course 117, absolutely incredible song and on par with some of marty’s works.
Hopefully Jinnouchi uses some updated versions of it in the game.
Halo 5 main menu music sounds like a bloody WW2 film… :’(
They would have tried if Marty wasn’t… Marty. Don’t get me wrong, Marty’s music is my favorite by far but if the rumors as to why he got booted from Bungie have even a particle of legitimacy to them, Marty must be in charge and Marty must be well compensated. Assume Marty was hired. Do you honestly thing he would share the stage with the current music head? Much less play second fiddle? Not a chance. What about compensation? Marty’s a recognized name in the business so he won’t be cheap, especially if he’s already bored with the series. This all doesn’t even considering the legal issues involved with essentially replacing a perfectly good employee, contracts may not allow this in the first place.
All these hoops for 343 to jump through just to take a step back into Bungle’s legacy and most importantly, for someone who decided that he was done with the series. Chances are someone (How long have Franky and Marty known each other?) mentioned the idea to him and he declined. As good as he is, when you consider all of the aforementioned, it wouldn’t be worth the effort and resources to replace a person who has established the sound of the new trilogy and is most likely very passionate about his work.
I do want Marty back though.

Umm those are definitely French Horns…

The main menu music ain’t that great, sounds generic and nothing like past games.

Couldn’t disagree more. What is Kazuma known for that makes him better and more well known than Marty O’ Donnell? Marty’s music is iconic when it comes to halo and replacing him after he’s composed the music for 5 halo games is absolute madness.

Haven’t heard that in-game, I don’t tend to stick around the main menu that long.
I have heard the song leading up to that point, which is just annoying.
I will concede it sounds a lot better than the soundtracks I’ve heard from Halo 4. But it’s still not on par with Marty’s work imo.

Sorry, I’m not very knowledgable when it comes to music or instruments. Regardless, most of the main menu music are French horns playing

HA good joke!
Putting fanboy-ism and whatever aside… Marty is a greater composer than Kazuma by a long way
Halo 5’s menu music is not bad but I think it is the first Halo that lacks that defining vibe in its music (especially intro song).
It sounds more like a Marvel theme than a Halo theme to me.
