Uhm. Is there a reason the set Master Chief wears in the campaign different from the one you unlock? Considering the one you unlock looks like the VI from previous games? Shouldn’t they, you know, have the same design since they’re the same armor?
Story wise, cortana made personal adjustments to chiefs armour. And the UNSC made adjustments to their own version, te Infinity online one.
343i made it different so that people had the variety or something.
i asked the same question got no real answers.
they are not the same armor, it was easily changed during cryo sleep probably by cortana since the armor is made of nano-tech
> they are not the same armor, it was easily changed during cryo sleep probably by cortana since the armor is made of nano-tech
Master Chief’s armor has absolutely ZERO nanotech. Nanotech was introduced in the Mark VII armor.
Master Chief wears the Generation 1 Mark VI.
The armor you unlock for War Games is Generation 2 Mark VI.

John’s mark VI uses Nanobots. There are multiple sources for this that I don’t feel like linking at this time. Technology interview with Frankie, description of armour abilities I believe, and several other places.
Okay but here’s where I’m finding issue with the nanotech in his armor. While that explains shape change, it doesn’t explain the change in mass considering he was frozen all that time and I don’t see how Cortana could have possibly gotten the materials needed to increase the armors mass otherwise unless she took it from other areas. Similarly, if we assume she used nanotech to fix his suit then he shouldn’t have the little melted part on his breastplate. But he very clearly does.
And it says the MrkVI in game is Gen1, to whoever mentioned it up there. The description for the armor is “Last series of mainline Mjolnir GEN1 armor types wotn by Spartan-II personnel.”
I always looked at it as artistic license, really. I figure the Mark VI we unlock for multiplayer is more fan-service than anything.
Look at the kig-yar (jackals), for instance. Same race of aliens, entirely different look. shrugs

Incorrect. The only -source- of Nanobots on the Gen1 Mark VI armor is Frankie throwing it up casually in an interview as one potential explanations of the armor’s appearance change that was not settled on.
Generation 1 Mark VI DOES NOT have nanobots: FACT.
They took liberties with it just like they did in completely redesigning everything, including the half of Forward Unto Dawn Chief was on. Which completely ruins continuity with Halo 3 because the Halo 4 FUD doesn’t have the cargo-bay Chief and the Arbiter landed in.
Yeah - I’m just going to chalk Chief’s new look as being the same as the inexplicable update to the ‘Forward Unto Dawn’ between H3 and H4, or the ODSTs between H2 and H3, or even the WHOLE OF NEW MOMBASA between H2 and H3:ODST…
I’m glad the Spartan-IV/Gen-2 version looks more like the Halo 3 version than Chief’s new suit, though - it’s a classic look, and it’s nice to have it available, even in an modernised way.

You’re contesting this knowledge of mine?
John’s armour is modified. This site even says so but it is too late for me To go source digging. Even in the face if Frankie talking about it, you dismiss it as a potential explanation. Ever thought why it was even introduced in Glasslands and mentioned in the Thursday war?
John’s mark VI is a heavily modified Mark VI. Just ask some of the other fellow knowledged people.

Yes, John’s Mark VI is modified. Different software as Cortana has the ability to rewrite software, just like I do, or anyone else with knowledge of coding can… Maybe different armor panels.
As for Glasslands and Thursday War, that was the Mark VII armor. The Mark VI is not even in either of those novels.
Regarding how is armor changed from Halo 3 to 4, they’ve said on numerous occasions that there is no real reason other than artistic license.
Software patches wouldn’t exactly be HEAVILY.
And I’m asking if you know why they introduced those concepts, I’m not saying mark VI. I’m talking about the armour. Why do you think it even mentioned in the Thursday war about cryo?
Just because its not mentioned before and is presented on the Mark VII, introduced in a bit of a forced way, doesn’t mean the mark VI didn’t have it before. Evidence points towards it.

While the other guy has stated a source, you are merely spouting words. Please do not claim things without providing a source or evidence. You are not the inventor of Halo.

He has stated no source at all for anything he has states. The only armor specifically states to have nanobots is the Mark VII armor: Source Glasslands;Thurdsay War
Cortana has the ability to update software: Source Halo 4.
Armor panels can be switched: Source Halo Reach; Halo The Fall of Reach; Halo 4
Forward Unto Dawn no longer cargo bay no longer exists where Chief and Arbiter landed: Source Halo 4

Why did they introduce it? Plot point for future Halo games so that John’s inevitably new armor that will come in Halo 6 will have the ability evolve and change itself.
There is absolutely nothing saying the Mark VI has nanobots. Saying it does is pure, sourceless, conjecture.

the prologue shows all spartans as halo 4 spartans which implies that it was a mere artistic change for the sake of it
As for infinity’s mark VI being halo 3’s mark VI, it was just an oversight on their part most likely, clashing their canon unnecessarily since they made infinity canon

Cortana uses Forward Unto Dawn’s tech to upgrade Master Chief’s armor, the ship had nanotech capabilities but his suit did not. The armor you unlock is MJOLNIR gen1 Mark VI but is changed slightly to be used with MJOLNIR gen2.
