Mark V or Mark VI?

So I did a Halo Anniversary campaign run through yesterday, and three times throughout the campaign I heard a marine say “Look, a Mark V”. I thought MC was a Mark VI??

He means the armor. The armor is the MJOLNIR Mark V, the current iteration at the time. In Halo 2, 3, and 4, he wear the MJOLNIR Mark VI. Which is to say, 1 month later. After Halo: CE. However, as of Halo 4, his armor is way outdated. Succeded by the Mark VII and the rest of the Gen-II armor.

The Master Chief wears MJOLNIR Mark V Armor in Halo: Combat Evolved and receives MJOLNIR Mark VI Armor at the beginning of Halo 2. He is still wearing Mark VI Armor as of Halo 4 but it has been heavily modified by Cortana so it is now unique to him. Although Mark VII Armor is now available and identified as GEN II Armor, Mark VI is still in service, based on the fact it is an Armor permutation available in Halo 4 Multiplayer/Spartan Ops.

I dont know if it would be that outdated, its stated in the novels that spartan armor can be upgraded through nano-tech while the wearer is in cryo, meaning his armor could have gotten some upgrades. That said the Spartan 3’s SPI armor was made after the markVI but was nowhere near it. The new armor may not measure up either, the reason only Spartans wore MJOLNIR armor was that the powered systems killed any un-augmented human that was put into the suits, that said Spartan IV’s are adult volunteers, not children put through intensive and possibly deadly augmentation…I;m not sure if lore wise its possible to augment an adult like that, or if they would do it anyway. It would explain why the Cheif is still relevant in spite of the presence of the Spartan IV’s on Infinity.

Actually, SPI Armor was made during the Mark-IV days. 2530’s to be exact. And Chief’s current version of the Mark-VI, the Cortana Special, was upgraded with nanomachines. But the Mark-VI in general is outdated. Chief just got a renewal.

sigh

Master Chief is a Mark II SPARTAN. He wears Mark V MJOLNIR ARMOUR in Combat Evolved. Two very different “marks” you are thinking about.

At the beginning of Halo 2 you see that he gets Mark VI armour.

Wasn’t it stated that Mark VII had the nanobots? Or did the retcon something AGAIN?

Also…Spartan IVs ARE augmented, but to what degree no one is really sure yet.

Thanks for the detailed responces guys.

Lets hope we see the new Mark VII more in Halo 4

Technically, GEN1/Mark VI armor is not fielded by SPARTAN-IV’S, but was upgraded to use the GEN2’s firmware. Same goes with GEN1/Mark V. It was upgraded to use the GEN1/Mark VI’s firmware, then later it was upgraded to use the GEN2’s firmware. As for John’s armor, it’s basicly heavily modified GEN1/Mark VI armor, but it was changed so much by Cortana that it could be on par, if not better than, the GEN2 armor

Master Chief wore the Mark V armor in Halo one but the rest of the halos he wore Mark VI even his Halo 4 armor is a modified Mark VI

Might be off topic, but I’m curious if they ever made a Mark VII?

Technically speaking all the armor in Halo 4 is Mark VII. It’s all about the internal hardware and software that counts more than the aesthetic. Naomi from the Kilo-Five series was said to wear Mark VII armor but it’s actually the old Mark V that was upgraded to Mark VII specifications.

So the Spartan IV armour is Mark VII? Like FOTUS and all that? Neat.

No Fotus isnt canon

In Halsey’s journal, there are notes she makes about things she would like to implement for Mark VII. Slipspace exit was the most interesting.

Clarification due to some innacurate statements here.

Halo Wars - Mark IV (4)

Halo: Reach armor - Mark V (5)

Halo:CE armor - Mark V (5)

Halo 2/3 Armor - Mark VI (6)

Halo 4 Armor - Mark VI (Modified) (6)

Naomi-010 is the only Spartan to wear the Mark VII (7) armor, which was in prototype stages during the Grasslands book and the last planned stage of the original MJOLNIR armor concept. The Spartan-4’s of the new trilogy wear a redesignd “slimmer” & lighter version of the MJOLNIR armor, dubbed the “GEN2” armor. This armor is not designed by Dr. Halsey, like the original armor.

There is also an problem with the story line… Energy Shields did not exist on the Mjolnir armor until just prior to the attack on reach, therefor the Spartans in Halo wars should not have shields, but for some reason they do.

Glasslands, not Grasslands. Naomi is technically wearing Mark VII armor technologically speaking but her armor was said in The Thursday War to look like the Mark V. This probably means she is wearing Mark V but with upgraded hardware/software.

Mark VI is also the last stage of the GEN I Mjolnir Armor worn by Spartan-IIs.

That was there solely for gameplay purposes and is not part of the canon.

I prefer mark v

Same dude, but this thread is nearly five years old, best not to revive these old conversations :stuck_out_tongue:
