Mark IV Gen1 needs a model change

I’ve been trying to figure out why the Mark IV in halo 5 looks different from the version we see in books and halo wars. I’ve found 3 model issues. The original Mark IV had larger shoulder pieces that rested higher up on the shoulder. We see had them enlarged on the spartan in such a way that it formed the big hulking shoulders that really drove the whole “super soldier” concept. The spartan also had much larger bicep plating, further driving the “strongman” attributes of the suit. The suit’s pectoral chest plating was also much larger in surface area and angled down more.

Here’s a side by side comparison:
Halo Wars Mark IV vs Halo 5 Mark IV
This is not Gen 1!!

I don’t think they’d go back into the game files and re-edit the armor model, but with how they’ve been listening to community feedback, anything is possible. I want the hulking super soldier that founded the spartan program, what about you?

EDIT: It was brought to my attention that the shoulder pieces in Halo Wars actually appeared to be hinged to the top shoulder, not directly attached. This means it was actually physically possible to have them placed high on the shoulder without having model clipping or restricting the spartan’s movement.

CONTENT EDIT: HD Mark IV cause it’s even better in full screen
CONTENT EDIT: Look how skinny the spartans actually are. This is not a physically augmented soldier (thanks TruncateComb6)

Also it has that ugly colored undersuit.

I’ve been seeing some posts that suggest 343i add a tertiary color option in the spartan appearance menu for coloring the undersuit separately.

The concept art is almost perfect.

I think the chest is the only thing that looks different not because they messed with it. Our Spartans in Halo 5 are much more gaunt than the Spartan II’s from Wars, 1,2,3. I don’t know why they made Spartan IV’s so skinny.

I don’t really like how they shrunk the shoulder pads and removed the armor plating under the bicep/armpit (leaving bare undersuit)

They just need to raise that smaller shoulder. They were very close to the neck on the original soldiers

Yea the shoulders are what throw it off for me, like where did those even come from? They don’t even remotely resemble the originals.

The description mentions its an updated variation…maybe they moved them down because they don’t need them as much? IDK

You can definitely see the Halo 5 versions are not skipping leg day compared to the Halo Wars one.

They definetly skipped arm day though lmao

I feel like a lot of the detailed washed off too. Like crevices of the armor on the Halo 5 version are not blackened to give it depth. And the paint job… The green on our current one is oversaturated. Shoulders definitely need to be raised up to give a bulkier look, but they were spartan-II so they were much taller and bigger.

Kind of a stupid comparison. The pic shown is a cut scene vs in game.

The under suit, the exo suit that the armor goes on is supossed to be black, but also this isn’t SII armor. Just a newer model for Spartan IV’s. I would’ve loved the exact model of the books and such but 343 doesn’t care for bout that.

With the current hardware of the xbox one, I’m pretty sure it can render the cutscene image to a working model. Halo wars didn’t have to worry about that because it was a omniview rts games. Details of in game model did not need that much detailing.

Regardless of where it came from, the armor won’t look different

That is hot. We need this in H5.

In the picture of the Halo 5 version, its flipped… But shoulders definitely need to be raised up to give it a bulky look. But I guess since we’re playing as spartan IV they are given a different look. -__- At least its mostly accurate unlike some other armor… CoughDecimator CoughMark V

I personally don’t have too much of an issue with this. I understand if you do, but for the Gen 2 Mjolnir, they made changes for a lot of armors. Mark IV is just another in that line, and they did not change it as much as some of the other armors at see (Scout, Recon come to mind, and Rogue is not reminiscent of the Gen 1 suit AT ALL). So while some people may want the exact replica, I’m just saying why it’s slightly different, and pointing out it’s only slightly different.

The difference aren’t too major, like avaplaya has said. The colored undersuit makes it look kind of bad, and the shoulder armor isn’t as large or prominent, but it’s more or less the same.

I’m not upset or disturbed that it’s changed, and I definitely agree that other armors have suffered much more, but considering that it went from the original captain america fused with hulk super soldier to a skinny wanna be, it’s definitely a step down. I wanna look like i’m a cold killing spartan II, not like my armor was made with legos

343’s armor quota is to allow maximum protection as well as maximum movement so that may explain why it looks less bulky.
