Marines in the campaign shouldnt be canon fodder

What would be cool if they gave more mass effect style. More people you save bigger battle gets on your side.

Halo CE: There are a few levels where you can save the marines in the short term and watch them get evac, which feels pretty awesome on legendary because of how hard it is to take out the enemies before they kill your marines. Then the flood are unleashed, and no matter what you do the marines you meet up with will die. You are now alone, and in the end you blow up the Halo and kill all the other marines. Except ya boy Johnson.

Halo 2: Again, the early levels you can keep your buddies alive if you work for it (idk if it’s possible on legendary and I’m not enough of a masochist to try), but you then you go to kill regret and the marines with you will always die. Then, in high charity, you free your marine buddies, but there is no way to save them in the end. You follow Truth, alone. And then Arby teams up with ya boy Johnson to kill an angry monkey.

Halo 3: Yet again, you can save your marines in the early levels, and even through most of the middle ones. But in the end, it was not worth the sacrifice of ya boy Johnson, RIP he shook the lightbulb. You then once again run away from certain death in a space jeep and end up frozen in space alone.

Halo Reach: This ain’t chief, next.

Halo 4: Idk, there’s like 1 level where the marines are on your side before captain angry pops a blood vessel and you go on your own to kill space Voldemort. Oh, but Cortana dies this time.

Halo 5: Sike! Cortana is now space Voldemort because war am bad and freedom make war. Oh, and you have some useless bots that follow you around and die whenever you need a revive, because 343 didn’t like not having an in universe explanation for co-op.

Halo Current: Everybody died off screen, except the pelican thief (why did they make the latino a pelican thief? why couldn’t he just be a pilot? c’mon bruh) and you. But no one does anything, they just hang out in the woods until you come along to kill the 6 aliens squatting on the pristine unsc landing pad. And then once you killed the squatters, they move in and do nothing until you show up and tell them to get in the uber.

In all seriousness, I’m not really concerned with saving the marines in Infinite, since they have no impact on the story missions. There’s never an evac pelican or a point where you split off and you get to feel like you saved those guys, at least for now; they just kinda hang out until you tell them to get in the car, at which point they are just around until you ditch them or they die.

It is pretty fun to get them in the razorback with the upgraded weapons and watch them ruin some poor grunt’s day though.

reviving/stoppiing them from dying woulld not be OP because its risk vs reward. you would have to risk your life and save them to keep your advantage. If marines are op then make them weaker. The thing i like about marines is that they distract the enemies and stop several enemies shooting you at once. They act like your shield and a way to spot enemies and keep the game flowing nicely.

that could be cool. something like save x amount of marines to start next mission because the mission requires a small army to enter a base or something. It is weird how the marines arent part of the story

I wish they were part of the story like CE, H2, H3 & Reach, they just feel so lifeless in Infinite

back in halo 3 and halo reach i always use then as canon fodder for the enemy AI’s.
that the enemy’s can kill then for me since there are more useless back then.
so to use then as target dummy for the enemy.

also on halo 4 in some missions i have use then as canon fodder for the enemy’s it suxs only there was 1 achievement when you need then alive on heroic only that part suxs hard for me.

now in halo infinite there are only usefull for the warthog and scorpoin gunner.
and most off all the razorback versions you can make for that there are good for.

i have try the rocket version what not was good usefull since there was a big chance there hit a close rock and i end up in the blast wave what not was good.
the beam version i have try was not bad at all.
the skewer version i have never try that.

but have you try the Best Op version off the razorback the Sniper version thats really OP and the best version there is.

infinites story would be a lot better if it was about building a resistance and the last missiion was some epic battle.

Honestly, their effectiveness is up to how the player chooses to use the game systems. If you provide them with snipers, hydras, sentinel beams, volatile skewers, etc, they become a force unto themselves. They were an integral part for me doing the outposts on legendary, with a full, properly equipped Marine squad making many of the outposts quite easy relative to the general legendary difficulty, with all Marines surviving. I would then take them marauding around to the next outpost.

While they are certainly more fragile, they are definitely more than cannon fodder when properly equipped, and if you as the player make sound decisions on how to bring them into fights.

thats more an issue with game balancing. marines shouldnt have unlimited ammo wiith power weapons. especccially since you said you found the outposts easy.

when rescuing marines in a base, they tend to just die. theyre useful for a little then they die and then you feel they were safer tied up and i just got them killed. kinda takes you out of the games immersion as master chief whos suppose to keep people alive. sure i could free the marines after the enemies are close to dead but wheres the fun in that.

Marines have always had unlimited ammo with power weapons, it’s something that is expected with the Marines in the series, IMO. And I suppose I should have qualified it - easy for legendary, not easy overall. And I mean, I think it’s good game design that it was - I spent the time to engage with the systems for unlocking the power weapons. The entire impetus behind the valor/HVT unlock system is that if you engage with it, you’re able to reduce difficulty through equipment by arming yourself, and your Marine squad, better. That’s why it exists. It’s the carrot at the end of the stick.

As for when rescuing them - I always either rescued them when the harder targets were dead (not all enemies, the harder targets like Chieftains or higher-ranking Elites), or I dropped them power weapons when rescuing them. No point in making them scavenge with a plasma pistol or needler when you’re more capable of scavenging and maneuvering than they are.

I dont think it should be about reducing difficulty, just different ways to enjoy the game and get a “slight” advantage. If you wanna roll in with a razorback and manrines with power weapons then the game should have good counter measures to maintain similar difficulty.

IMO, the games does offer that - you simply play on a higher difficulty. The vehicles on legendary are killed pretty easily by either the ravager or skewer, and also seem to take less damage from the more common weapons before entering doom state. However, I didn’t ever load up like that on legendary - since the vehicles were weak, I generally took my Marines by foot.

that the vehicles are weak do’s not mean you can make then powerfull in a other way.
by give the marines some power weapons.
a warthog, rocket hog, gungoose or mongoose can become something power full if you give the marine a power weapon.
with the razorback is 5 time’s much more powerfull then a scorpoin tank or wasp if you give all the 5 marines the same power weapon.

its sad you cant give the marines the gravity hammer.
since i really wane know how powerfull that is with the razorback x5 or the mongoose or gungoose combo.

i’d honestly agree with this for ODSTs or spartans… but not marines. maybe if there is any campaign dlc and we get to see other ODSTs and spartans, that form of revival and player assistance could be implemented. it was in H5 and i was okay with it, given the squad mechanic. maybe have it be like Reach where you get 4 marines/odst/spartans tagged on your hud who’re apart of your squad

Infinite has the most powerful marines in Halo history, these folks are meatgrinders. If you give them even a moderately decent weapon they can wipe out waves of Banished by themselves on legendary

they still die and ruin the immersion that youre this hero that saves people. it should be possible to keep most of them aiive plus it would spice up the gameplay. if their OP, it can be rebalanced.

Keeping them alive is up to you, it’s very possible

Do you want the Razorback to turn into a space boat?

They’re powerful but fragile.
They should be durable but weak or more balanced.

Hahaha yes! This is the best glitch in the game imo and for once I hope 343 continues doing bugger all to fix it

They’re humans, powerful but fragile is literally the most accurate way to express them. They’re glass cannons
