Took a quick look at the Marines’ battle rifles from the trailers and noticed that they seemed to be the same BR models from Halo 5. Can we assume that these are placeholder models, or is it possible that is what the BR is going to look like in game?

probably in game I would imagine perhaps a mixture of the original and the 343i one looks more the classic artstyle

It looks like a placeholder to me. It wasn’t really meant to draw attention in the trailer I don’t think. I’d bet on the Halo 4/5 and the Halo 2/3 BR both being in Infinite like it was in Halo 5.
It could just be a mixture. There could be certain aspects that have the classic art style and others have 343i’s art style
I expect we will see the weapon variations that H5 introduced play a larger role in Infinates campaign. We will probably get to use classic style weapons and their updated counterparts similar to how H5 had the H2BR
I think we’ll still see a lot of Halo 5 art style in this game because it’s still 343I game I don’t think they’ll return everything back to Bungie art.
Well, the year is 2560 in the new Halo, I can imagine it went through some new changes over the years. The BR85 was used in Halo 4 to Halo 5: Guardians and I read somewhere that it was adopted by the UNSC in 2554.
It’s probably just a place holder. I’ll be very surprised if we don’t see the classic br design return

343 created a new art style and built in-canon “excuses” around that new style…

But it’s annoying to completely disregard the world-building purely for art’s sake. Seems they don’t really care about striking a balance anymore.

You mean rolling back the art style. And that makes it exceptionally odd when you try to introduce new things with an old look while being chronologically new.
It’s all possible but you’re missing the point. It’s something to be avoided.
I hope its still the new one, I kinda like its design more. It seems to have the all back classic look, which I think looks better. I want a mix of new and old, not just one or the other.
I hope they at least put the original in again like 5 with the ledgenday weapons.
