Something that doesn’t make sense to me about Halo 2 is that it removed health indicators for ally vehicle passengers, which is a really nice way of seeing if you’re being too reckless. I know that I can’t be the only one who likes keeping marines alive all the way through a battlefield, but in every game since Combat Evolved I never know if one’s gonna be able to take a few hits or drop from one Plasma Rifle shot. Since the Infinite teaser showcased marines and had a CE vibe all the way through, I think it’d be a good time to return a feature like that–assuming there are other people who want it back, as well.
I actually prefer when they took away vehicle health bars and marine health indicators in H2. I prefer contextual cues anyway. Now when it comes to keeping marines alive, I can understand wanting to have some indicator of how much life they have. But at the same time, I feel like it would just be used as an indicator of how reckless you could be before needed to be careful.
If marine health indicators did return, I’d hope it would be done in a way that looks better than it did in CE. Like a vitals monitor with heartbeats that flatlines when they die, or something.

One aspect removed, removes a memory from us all.~ KogaGmente III****So to bring back Heal bars I would say yes. Just for the 1% of players that want it.
To be honest, while I DO try to keep my Marines alive, I don’t go out of my way to do so. They’re more than likely to accidentally drop a grenade at their feet while trying to throw it or walk in front of me as I’m shooting the enemy, thus getting themselves killed than they are to survive. Marine AI’s are really dumb to be honest. They have little situational awareness in regards to you (can’t tell you how many times I’ve accidentally shot a Marine or civilian while trying to kill a Crawler or an Elite…).
So, I don’t particularly care about having their health bars back. Besides, I think the reason they did away with that is because Chief himself upgraded to the MJOLNIR Mark VI armor and Gel layer which automatically applies Biofoam to his wounds thus eliminating the need for health packs and the need for a health bar. It only makes sense they throw the entire concept out the window. Also, it took up a lot of needed space on your screen; I have been blindsided many a times by those dang health bars because I’m on a tank and have 4 of them on my treads…
I was just playing the Flooded playlist and managed to keep the marines alive on Gravemind for the entire level. I was surprised at how easy it was to do so wgwb trying to, and it got me thinking. It seems to me that the marines in Halo 2 might have recharging health like the Chief, they just dont have an energy shield to go with it. If that’s the case then health bars wouldn’t make sense.

Yeah, I’m guessing a lot of people would just use it to keep themselves in check. Idk I just like keeping marines alive whenever I play solo, since they make the combat feel a little more alive. The vitals monitor idea sounds rad, would fit in pretty well with the outside lore too.

I actually noticed that when I was doing the playlist too, except my marines despawned for some reason towards the end of the mission before I got to the mosoleum. Maybe it’s just easier to keep them alive since the playlist is only on Normal, but either way it was sweet having a team of marines with beam rifles for that long.
Crow’s Nest from Halo 3 could have benefited from this. I make it into a mini game where I see how many marines I can save as I’m clearing out the barracks. So to answer your question, OP, I agree and would love to have that added back in. In canon, Chief’s HUD would reflect the status of his fire team and even give him bio readouts, so this could easily be included in a game without messing with canon (for those of us who care about that stuff).
Just get the Warzone Marines…those soldiers are cold blooded man…blast you away in a couple seconds…

Exactly! I’ve been reading The Fall of Reach for the past few weeks and noticed that the MJOLNIR HUD did that. To be fair, though, a lot more can be pulled off in a book than in the games.
I wouldn’t mind some kind of vitals indicator to return. I always tried to make it through the vehicle areas without my marines losing any health. If I played on legendary I just tried to keep them from grenading themselves
Wouldnt mind having some way to heal em either. I like keeping my dudes alive. Give me some kind of mobile healing station, like you can use in Spartan Assault.
I’d like it as an option. It’s useful information to have if you care but it’d be nice to be able to turn it off for the people who’d rather have the immersion (me).

also being someone one tries to keep them alive, I would like to see something of the liking. But maybe not as large as the one in CE, something more subtle.

I agree, they even had missions and achievements dedicated to keeping the Marines or allies alive in a few Halo games. So it would be nice to see the health I used to switch damaged Marines out on Silent Cartographer.
Sounds good

Right? Every time I play CE on solo I wish I could give the marines one of the extra health packs.

Yeah there’s definitely got to be a way they could make it more condense, maybe have a little chaingun symbol for the Warthog gunner and some kind of helmet or something for the passenger.

Same here. I like giving them good weapons too since they don’t run out of ammo, makes them really useful for the vehicle sections.
