I can’t believe no bleed through is back. It was one of the first things I complained about when this game when it came out. No BT, AA’s Bloom ect ruined Halo for me and my friends who used to play H3 every night.
Don’t go backwards 343.

This. I want Squad Slayer back.

This! I can’t believe they took away a basic list like BTB from anyone without all the DLC. I bought the first Noble map pack, and played the Noble list now and then. When Defiant came out I didn’t get it, and then I basically couldn’t use Noble anymore, because the Noble list was replaced with one where you have to have both Noble and Defiant. So now I don’t want to buy any maps because I’ll just have to keep buying more to be able to keep using them.
And now I have to buy maps just to use a playlist that I used to be able to play? BS!! Why don’t they realize they’re making the game less valuable with this move? They’re not prompting me to buy the maps, they’re convincing me to not buy Halo 4.
i never really post anything on these forums. i was completely outraged by the removal of squad slayer. squad was my perfect playlist 5 vs 5 and most importantly no f-ing armor lock! why! oh why? did you take it away. sobs… bring it back please!
I’m agreeing with the things everyone else is saying about Bleedthrough/Evade and adding that I want Anniversary Squad (or something similar) back. I realize not many people played this list, but I really love the Anniv maps yet hate the Anniv settings. I love(d) the TU settings and just want to be able to play them on Anniv maps in a small team format. I just searched Super Slayer 5 times and never got an Anniversary map, so I’m not going to be using that playlist. TU and Anniv are both 343’s creations, why not put them in the same playlist? Anniv BTB is great (don’t change it!) but it’s not the same as 4v4 by any stretch of the imagination. I thought the Anniv Squad playlist was perfect the way it was.
343 you guys had this game going in the right direction and were giving us what we wanted, but this update seems completely arbitrary and crushed my confidence in your understanding of what makes a good game. I hope you’re willing to listen to what veteran players like myself have to say.
Remember when Halo used to be fun? I do. It seems like with every new game/update, Halo gets worse. Halo 2 was awesome. Halo 3 was slightly less awesome, mostly due to a small drop in map quality. Halo Reach was much worse than 3, due to a significant drop in map quality and less than stellar gameplay changes. Am I the only one who likes fun maps? I know Zanzibar/Last Resort was not perfectly symmetrical, but I don’t care. It was fun. I know Terminal wasn’t completely balanced, but I don’t care. It was fun. WAS. This March update signifies the end of me playing Reach. Team Objective was about the only playlist I found fun in Reach. Objective first started getting worse months ago, when they took away Hemorrhage. The resulting playlist was less fun, but still alright. Yeah I know it was a big map for 4v4, but the vehicles and size made the games more unique, as opposed to most other maps revolving entirely around the DMR. When I saw that they had changed Objective to 5v5, I was so hoping that they put Hemorrhage back in. When it was there, everyone voted for it. A fan favorite. I still for the life of me cannot understand the decision to remove it. Now all I have is an Objective playlist with too many players for the current maps and still no Hemorrhage.
For now, it’s back to Halo 3. Back to Last Resort. To Valhalla and High Ground. It’s a shame that so few play it nowadays, and those that do often don’t take anything seriously.
This update is exactly what we needed. If you want damage bleeding go play Halo 3.
The reason Halo Reach is different is because it’s a different game. If you wanted to keep playing Halo 3 then get off of Reach and go do that.
The original Title Update was well intended but it attempted to “fix” things that didn’t need fixing.
Changes such as nerfing armor-lock and active camo were excellent additions and deserve to stay.
Eliminating the sword cancellation was too much in my opinion. Without sprint, sword needs to remain un-countered, but when you factor in the ability to sprint, the sword (without the possibility of cancelling out) becomes overpowered. It would have been a good original balancing function for the sword to have to be redeployed after a sprint (like when you first pick it up and it goes “pshh!”) but it’s too late for that now, and the sword should be able to be cancelled out again.
KEEP IN MIND, I am not a casual Reach Player. I have worked VERY hard from almost zero gaming experience, to become a decent Halo player. I play, and I play to win with a positive K/D (my roommate does not though) I am an educated Reach Player. Before the game came out I taught myself all the statistics and strategies, all the weapons and their functions. I studied Reach. I have kept up with all the changes and updates.
I also know seasoned Halo gamers who do like Reach because they came to the game with an open mind for a NEW game. You can rage all you want, but you’re closed minded and you’re living in the past. This is not Halo 2, or Halo 3. So stop screaming that it needs to be turned into that.
Reach was not designed for damage bleeding, damage bleeding had no place in Halo Reach and it needed to be removed from the Title Update. TU now has nerfed Armor Lock, and reduced bloom, (things that were good to fix) and damage bleeding needed to go. Armor lock is fine. I don’t like it, but I am skilled enough to counter it. Even in Vanilla Reach where it’s over powered I can beat Armor Lock because I learned to play THIS game. Now that it’s nerfed it’s even better. Let anyone use Armor Lock. I don’t care.
I don’t like Jet Pack, but you know what? I learned to play against it because I’m not trying to play Halo 3. It’s been over a year. Get over the fact that this is a new game and enjoy it for what it is. The March Update was excellent and fixed the broken aspects of Reach.
Halo 4 is going to have some MAJOR changes even from Reach (e.g. the new CoD like scoring system shown in the preview video) and chances are I’m not going to like those changes very much, but if I have a problem with it, I will just go back and play Reach. Then I’ll adapt to the new game factors and enjoy Halo 4 for what it is.
Look back to the huge changes from Halo Combat Evolved to Halo 2! HUGE changes. Implemented by BUNGIE. Damages changed, new weapons were added, the scale changed, everything was different, but you don’t hear nearly as many people whining about how Halo 2 wasn’t like Combat Evolved. The fact that 2 and 3 were so similar gave you all a bad impression of future Halos. Bungie is an innovative company, things are going to change, change is part of nature. If you want to play the exact same game over and over again, go play CoD.
Please bring back Squad Slayer. I played that to avoid armor lock and community maps. Please bring it back. It was an excellent playlist that I loved until the Title Update. Now that the Title Update features have been fixed I want Squad Slayer back.
> Removing Bleedthrough/Squad Slayer (our only pure slayer option with no Armor Lock) is a complete joke. I’m just waiting to get pinched and wake up.
Biggest disappointment is the Squad Slayer… My favorite playlist. 5v5 for great action and intense games now gone…
That’s because they were positive changes. Interesting new weapons. Cool gameplay additions. Bigger/better maps. Halo Reach did the opposite. Weapons that played like downgraded versions of previous ones. Annoying gameplay additions. Small, uninspired maps. Halo 2-3 maps were massive canyons, vast futuristic cityscapes, working train terminals, colossal wind power facilities, outdoor abandoned military bases, etc. On the other hand, many of the original Reach maps resemble small Lazer Tag arenas. Oh boy!
I hate to start out on a sour note but I was honestly saddend to see Squad Slayer go. The 75 kill cap on medium/small maps was incredibly enjoyable.
On the up side though, the addition of Super Slayer was wonderful! It is great to have a playlist that almost directly mimics that of the arena (aside from armor abilities) as a way to practice without the consequences to your rating.
I understand 343 wanting to make the game their own and they have been doing so slowly with the updates. Sometimes you have to test some harsh looking waters to find out they’re not all that bad. Hopefully at the end of this season they will crunch some numbers, keep some of the good, loss some of the bad, and maybe fingers crossed bring back a fan(well at least this one’s) favorite.
Literally the BEST update I have ever seen for this game.
Removing an unpopular playlist.
Replacing it with a better playlist, with TU to end the long war in the voting lobby between TU and Vanilla.
Removing Evade from Objective gametypes ( what was the point of them being in only objective anyway?)
I’m proud of you for leaving armor lock. It was created to be used, and the people who can’t handle the people using it, obviously don’t know how to get around it and slay properly.
Getting rid of bleedthrough was the best part. I felt it was created to imitate Halo 3, and honestly it didn’t. Besides, This is Reach, we don’t need bleed-through.
I wanted to thank you for your hard work, this update makes me so happy.
Those are my thoughts.
Oh yeah I almost forgot. You made Objective teams of 5.
Thank you, it really brings a different feel to the game when there are more players involved. I can notice it, i don’t know if anyone else can. Maybe they don’t pay attention enough.

Just to say, Evade was removed from EVERY playlist minus Grifball, not just Objective.
Now that I played the March update. I have nothing to complain about. I LOVE the title update without bleed through. We played BTB for the first time in a long time and BTB Heavies was great (minus the team mates STILL shooting you for getting in a vehicle but I couldn’t help but laugh since there were so many other options but they piled up on my tank and gave the team a killtacular anyways).
I’ve felt limited to team slayer and invasion for awhile but now I can actually enjoy the other play lists. Thanks 343. As much as I love my “default” Reach, I could deal with this version of title update in every play list and it would give the much need consistency everyone has been wanting so much. please dont bring back bleed through or I’ll be left with only default play lists again.
Terrible update. I loved Squad Slayer. No armor lock and more kills to play for. Removing jetpack and bloom would have been nice but instead it’s yanked completely.
I’ve just played a few games of Super Slayer and it’s terrible. Dull, inconsistent experience, many quitters.
Please reinstate Squad Slayer and start refining the good playlists.
Keep the silly stuff in one other playlist and promote MLG into Competitive to help improve the numbers.
343 really needs to listen to its regular players.
Ok… Well Squad slayer I can say was probably one of the most popular and enjoyable playlists. It was much like social slayer with the best settings including no armor lock. Most of us players that disliked the AA and enjoyed 5v5 played that playlist. We fought to have that playlist to have something different from the Armor lock community. Now it is basically the same as Team Slayer, with 85% bloom. What was the point of doing this, when there are many other playlists “The Arena” that have less of a population. We fought to get the playlist and now it is back to a 4v4 with 85% bloom. You might as well get rid of the playlist not make another one no one is going to play. The population of Squad Slayer was only a bit lower than TS. Watch as Super Slayer becomes another DLC playlist or TU Beta.
As for evade I can understand in some playlists. But have you ever tried to play BTB w/o evade. It takes a long time to get across the map. I have around 4000 BTB games alone and I know taking out evade will make BTB less playable from my opinion. Most full parties vote obj not only for the extended time but to use evade. Sprinting with the already slow spartan speed is still pretty slow going. Thanks for allowing me to contribute.
As for bleedthrough I agree it needed to be removed. It does not play nice with the Healthpacks in this game. And everything else is great news BTBheavies for example. Thanks 343 for the great updates.
What is it you dislike about bleedthrough? I would like to hear the good and bad about it from you.
Also, with TU being initiated through the majority of the playlist I would guess TU was the clear winner. Otherwise it would make sense to have 1 or 2 TU playlist.
Dear 343, please provide an explanation to help us (me) better understad the why’s behind the changes. It should help it be easier to swollow. Will you release the numbers for us? What was the population of squad slayer? what was the final tally of the votes for TU vs “vanilla”, how did the TU impact gameplay according to your data? Do you have access to Bungie’s data system for Reach? We’d like to see the numbers in hopes we’ll gain a better understanding.
To me it seems 343 is fighting to find their identity. They’re trying to please as many people as they can instead of focus on what makes halo popular and great and improving up such. That could be why we see basically 3 games in 1 with the current MM structure. I use to enjoy playing a playlist for a while then switching it up and playing something different. Now, it has become frustrating because in game you remember, “oh, you can block the sword in this game type”, or “Oh, I have to pace my DMR shot more, or oh, the pistol is 3 shots here”. I’m sure you’re tired to hearing “bungie did or never did…” but, guess what, that will never changed. They created a amazing franchise and you have huge, enormous shoes to fill and so far, the post I’ve read and the feedback I’ve received from friends in real life and via xbox live mostly have doubts about what you’ve done or haven’t done and if or how much will carry over to halo 4.
One thing Bungie always did was make changes to IMPROVE the game. They didn’ always try to appease everyone is something needed to be adjusted after reviewing their data, playing the game and listening to feedback from the community. Lets face it, armor lock needed to be changed and should be changed title wide. Being able to remove a sticky grenade after you’re stuck makes no sense. That would be similar to being shot in the head with a sniper, going into armor lock and living. It makes no sense and is counter to everything halo. Now, I’m not saying there isn’t a place for armor lock, although I find it extremely annoying, but it needs to be tweaked. It does help balance the sword and rockets but you shouldn’t be able to take 2 rockets shots. However it most cases armor lock simply delays the inevitable. But it simply brings gameplay to a crawl waiting for them to come out of armor lock.
How do you think you have improved the game with these updates? Does it require more skill or less skill? h2 improved upon h ce, ce multi not great, campaign was great. Improve the game and gameplay. This is what happens with no ranking system. In the past, people unfamiliar with the game could run around holding down the trigger with AR’s fighting other new players. Now, in order to balance the game tweaks are needed. Not everyone gets a trophy you know. you shouldn’t be able to run at a player from 20-30 yards away holding down the trigger with an AR and kill someone with one clip who is jumping, strafing, or sprinting away from you. It should at minimum require trigger pulses and some level of skill (similar to H2).
CONCERNING: Franky admits being addicted to Black Ops, do we want the person in charge of this franchise to be addicted to a game the opposite of halo? no wonder they are talking about introducing a progressive system where it impacts gameplay. Bad idea. Halo is great because it is player skill based. Not who spends the most time playing the game. DO NOT make it where progression gives a player an advantage over another player, new or seasoned. That will be a huge mistake. Don’t forget a reason for MW3’s success and BF3’s success is Reach’s and Anniversiary’s failure to keep players engaged. Not the greatest of their games (not to take anything away from those games).
Why did you remove squad slayer and replace it with something that doesn’t resemble squad slayer? Is it to gather data for h4? Is it to appease the casual players who mostly play reach at this point? It was one of the more popular playlist. In my experience, my friends and I don’t want to play the community maps. For the most part they aren’t that good. Problem is, since a majority don’t seem to have the DLC, map content is limited so you have to use community maps. Release the first 2 maps for free and make playlist DLC required. Which reminds me, what kind of DLC playlist is it when all DLC isn’t required? This is so different from what we’ve come accustom to its a little scary. Im not a pro player and I’m not a casual player. I believe I fit in to the majority being a mix of both.
Why Evade removed - one way to avoid the sword, a way to avoid the sprint double beat down, a way to avoid being splattered by vehicles, a way to avoid grenades and rockets. I would like 343 to explain why they are making or made these changes. What data do they have and how will this removal IMPROVE gameplay? Are they trying to figure out which armor abilities to migrate to H4? In TU slayer, removing evade and adding armor lock. There has to be a purpose. Maybe because evade was the best of both? It provided the speed to move around the map that sprint does and an ability to defend against attack like armor ability. Seems like with BTB heavies, evade would be more important than ever.
“RANDOM (radical) THOUGHT” Most intermediate players have left reach for mw3 and bf3…there’s a reason, it has nothing to do with mw3 and bf3. you didn’t see this in h2 or h3. then again, MS doesn’t make any additional money by having players play 1 game predominantly for 1 year. Its better for them to release a game, release some map packs in 6 months then have players move on at 8 months to buy another game to play until the next halo comes out. Who knows if this is poor planning and execution on 343 or part of a grander money making scheme for MS. I wouldn’t be surprised if either where the case.
Please, if you haven’t played BTB heavies yet…go play before you say it’ll be great. It’s far from great, needs a lot of tweaking. I wonder how much play testing is done before changes are implemented or somethign new is rolled out. If 343 isn’t using the same play testers from h2 and h3, MS needs to get them back. Pay them whatever they want. You’ve (MS) made billions on this franchise. Don’t assume you won’t start losing money…cause you’re going to (soft loses). ODST was the first Halo game I didn’t preorder and get at 12:01. And I didn’t even buy Reach, it was given to me for my birthday and I didn’t ask for it (4 months after release date). What made Halo CE so great and so popular was the campaign. Sorry folks, it wasn’t deathmatch/MM. That didn’t become popular until Halo 2 when it was IMPROVED upon greatly. I believe the population of the anniversiary classic playlist proves this.

Posted by an average player at best. 71 BPR, 1.36 k/d, with most of games in TS, but a reclaimer because they play all the time. To me, that’s one of the problems. Halo has been about skill and competition, along with fun. Thats why living dead, griffball, action sack, etc. came to be. It all worked fairly well with a ranking system to pair teams and players. you are right, a lot of us want to build on Halo 3 and forget Reach was designed to be more like Halo CE…a step back. Thats why we are so disappointed and also worried and eagerly await info about h4. Halo’s popularity exploded with MM in H2 and H3…that’s why it is so successful. I agree with you about sprint and the sword, seems way overpowered, you can’t shoot to come out of sprint, why can you melee? That would fix sprint double beat down and sword sprint dominance. But maybe that’s something that cannot be adjusted…at least easily anyway.

Not sure how you came up with that considering a new playlist was created for TU and majority of playlist received the TU update. That, to me at least, signals TU was the clear winner.
