March Playlist Update Discussion

Squad was the one playlist I could play TU and not horrible forged maps. Thanks for ruining yet another average playlist. Joy.

Super slayer, really is that supposed to make me think that the playlist is super awesome

Tu forced me down into Invasion and TS. Now it looks like my options have been opened up and I can return to good old BTB. If you’d like the perspective of players playing since the begining and enjoying Halo Reach, The February update was the joke to us.

>

Spoken like someone who is unwilling to accept the possibility that bleedthrugh in Reach may be inherently flawed and who fallaciously assumes that anyone opposed to it must be a “true casual” and unable to adapt to bleedthrough.

Tell me, what is your definition of a “true casual”?

Why do you not understand that if someone has a problem with the effects of a game mechanic, then their desire to see it removed has nothing to do with adapting? Would it be fair to say a few months from now that the reason you are against the TU sans bleedthrough is because you can’t adapt to it?

Please give feedback on what you don’t like without unfairly attacking someone just because they have preferences different than yours. Possum84 didn’t make the changes; he only expressed his approval of them. I.e., he gave feedback, which is what this forum is for, and he doesn’t deserve to be demeaned because of it.

Why? Since you have never experienced the TU sans bleedthrough in MM, how do you know it won’t be a great experience?

Anyone so tied to a single Reach game mechanic that they are unwilling to play the game when it is removed can’t possibly be any kind of “warrior,” TU or otherwise. For those who found the TU to be an improvement, the game is not that much different without bleedthrough. You still have 85% bloom, a greatly weakened Armor Lock and AC, and no sword block. The only significant difference is having to deal with the occasional sprinting double melee; but a good team that uses map control and keeps the appropriate distance from the enemy and has members skilled in the use of the DMR and the Magnum should have little problem with this; certainly not enough to refuse to ever play the game again.

> Adding and updating joke playlists, and leaving Arena and MLG untouched, good job!

MLG controls the MLG playlist, not 343i. And what exactly do you want them to do with Arena?

> super slayer, really is that supposed to make me think that the playlist is super awesome

Beats me. Why don’t you wait until the 6th, play the game, and make that call yourself, instead of being hung up on the name.

i’ll stick to customs and halo 3 now. thanks 343i for ruining halo reach AGAIN. it was fine the way it is right now. where is the invasion update that you promised us?

> I love when my opponent has an in-game pause button for when they screw-up or when I can’t even see my opponent cause they refuse to actually ‘fight’ me. They’d rather hide in a corner while invisible then kill me@!!!

So are you opposed to Sniper Rifles too?

BTW, under the TU Armor Lock is not an in-game pause button. You can continue attacking the Armor Locker and it has an effect on him, including possibly killing him. And he can’t fire back. It’s like getting free shots.

I am so glad they are removing bleedthrough from the TU. It was broken in so many ways.

Health pack glitch.
easy sprint and melee kills.
Easier 6 ar shot melee kills.
It threw out the entire point of having health and shields being separate.

The march update looks like it will be the best update reach has ever had.

They could do a better job of explaining their reasoning and thought processes sometimes thats for sure, i thought the reasons for most of the most recent changes were pretty self evident, unless you still want a bullet list of the most obvious things?

Bleedthrough has been causing complaints for months, people kept finding flaws and bugs in it, it caused confusion, it actually makes melee play worse. It had to go.

The TS vote dictated that they could not simply borg it with TU, so they made a place for everyone to be happy. But we knew they are already at the playlist cap, so something had to be cut to make room.

Evade im not too sure about. I never liked it for spartans but i dont think i saw much complaining about it here. Perhaps 343i saw complaints elsewhere. Regarless, i still support its removal for spartans, it was always meant more as an elite ability.

I thought updates were supposed to make the game better, not make it worse.

…,

Officially done w/ Halo. I really thought 343 “got it”. With the removal of bleed-thru they obviously don’t.

If only they would have fixed arena.

> If only they would have fixed arena.

That would also be really, really nice.

It’s funny how 343 just managed to get rid of all their good progress with just one update.

It’s obvious who 343 are catering to now. If they continue to act like this, Halo 4 will be even worse than Reach and die when the next CoD game comes out.

> OK, we all know that the March playlist caused an uproar amongst many of us. The removal of bleedthrough (Even though I hated it, it was vastly superior to the old melee system Vanilla Reach tends to use.), the removal of Squad Slayer and Anniversary Squad was uncalled for and the removal of Evade was also uncalled for. Now I would like to shed some light as to why 343i made these choices. So let’s begin.
>
> Bleedthrough:
>
> Bleedthrough, as many of you know, existed since the days of Halo CE, it played a vital part within the golden triangle. People only resorted to melee if they were out of options, needed to reload or backed themselves to a tight corner, although most smart players would have an escape route in mind just in case they were forced into these situations. Throughout the course of Halo 2 and 3, bleedthrough existed within these two games and it didn’t affect their respected sandboxes whatsoever. Bleedthrough always did it’s job and that was to finish off your adversary with a swift punch to the head. It always saves time to reload when you are engaged in CQC. When Reach came along, Bungie took a different route and completely overhauled the melee system, which in my opinion, was a bad idea. What Bungie didn’t realize that this new system had serious drawbacks and thus created “Double Pummellers” People with the inability to shoot with their given weapon and thought that punching was their only way out. This seriously annoyed a lot of people and thus created an armada of complaints one after another, until that eventful day, when 343i gifted people the TU. Bleedthrough was one of it’s many packages and brought back some hope into this game. Although it was overpowered in strength, comparison to one sniper bullet, it was, nonetheless, a lot more consistent. Why 343i removed this is beyond me, maybe because the Vanilla fans hated it so much? 343i, for the love of God that is holy, just take the safest route and effectively tone down the melee power to 75%. Not only will it eliminate “Double Pummellers” for good, but it will effectively increase the skill gap even more. Anyway that’s enough for the bleedthrough history for now, let’s move on.

> The Removal of Squad Slayer and Anniversary Squad:
>
> I won’t write as much as I did in my last paragraph, but I will address some concerns. OK, 343i, why in God’s name did you think removing these two playlists was a smart idea? I’m baffled as to why you came to this conclusion. Surely you realize that Squad Slayer was a safe haven for those who couldn’t stand Armour Lock, sub-par community maps, AR starts, etc. I enjoy this playlist since it has some sort of competitive atmosphere when two teams of 5 duke it out, especially when it comes to full parties. I hope you all realize that by removing these two playlists, you will anger a lot of people and it’s already becoming evident as I continue to type this. I still don’t understand why you removing Anniversary Squad as well, despite it’s low population at times, I can still find games just as easily, even if I’m forced to face full parties to do so. Which brings me to this new Super Slayer playlist I’ve heard so much about. So let me clarify this? Super Slayer is basically Team Slayer with TU settings, right? That means AL, crappy community maps, the like will also take place as well? Come on 343i, this is ridiculous, not to mention that you couldn’t come up a decent title for said playlist.
>
> The removal of Evade from Spartan loadouts:
>
> I don’t understand why you decided this was a necessary move. Evade was the only AA that allowed us to dodge onrushing vehicles, avoid huge–Yoink!- explosions with the blast radius of a nuclear warhead, a quick burst of speed and a delightful way of embarrassing your assailant with a swift assassination by rolling behind him. Something tells me that you are not thinking this through, are you? What about Sprint on Elites? Did that always made sense to have 8 foot Xenophobic Reptiles sprinting around when they can already move that fast to begin with? Why not remove that? I’m sorry 343i, but yet again, this is another careless move on your end. Hell, what about AL, AC and Jetpack? Why not remove them? I couldn’t care less if these was tied to achievements, they shouldn’t be in a Halo game at all, period. I can’t blame you for inventing these monstrosities, that was Bungie’s doing, but you are just as ignorant if you support these ridiculous AAs.
>
> I’m exhausted for writing this much, but 343i, think about what you are doing. This TU was a Godsend and you’ve brought back hope into this broken game known as Reach. I’ve tried to be civil with this thread and if I get banned because of it, then I guess Halo is done for. I admit that I am a casual player, but I know what is bad and what isn’t and this update is most certainly a bad one. Please 343i, think about what you are doing, thanks for reading.
>
> There isn’t a TL;DR version, now stop being lazy and read it already.

I thought I post this to express my concern with this March update that’s going to take effect on Tuesday. It’s funny how my thread gets locked all of a sudden.

I’m of the opinion that it was a really, really weird move to throw around the combat fundamentals of Reach at ALL. I’ve spent a year getting accustomed to the game, the rythm of the DMR and the map-specific tactics, the armor abilities and the general speed of a game.
With the TU everything slowly changed, until some of my favorite playlists were entirely different; people would camp in weird spots or would be scared to cross a section of the map, I’d die while still having some shield left and at first I would be confused but this soon turned to frustration and anger. Why would they change the mechanics of a game everyone has been playing and learning for a year?

Now I completely understand ALL of the changes 343 has made in the past few months, I see what they are trying to do and I also see they are doing a fine job for a lot of people. But WHY TAKE AWAY the basis of the game THIS LATE? I don’t feel like adapting to the updates of this game every month and I have been enjoying the game less and have therefore been playing less. Thankfully Team Slayer seems to be back to vanilla…

I hope 343i can find a solution that pleases both the vanilla players and the revolutionaries (or whatever they like to be called) without splitting up the playerbase too much. I certainly wish them the best of luck!

On a side note: I always enjoy playing Team Fortress 2 although Valve keeps adding weird, sometimes unbalanced stuff to the game. The difference between Reach and TF2 though, is that Valve has been slowly building on their game and Reach was drastically different one day to the other.

Removing bleed through and evade was just a dumb not so well thought out decision.

There are good things and there are bad things that come with this update.

Good Thing)

  1. Bleed-through shields is removed. That is a good thing because bleed-through shields makes matchmaking worse in my opinion.

Bad things)

  1. Removing squad slayer for super slayer was not a good decision.
    2.Removing evade from objective playlists.

A side note, please make some playlists where I can just play vanilla Reach. I have been playing the game since it came out and getting used to it. Now everything that I came to know and love about Reach has been changed. They’re not bad updates, it just makes Reach unfamiliar.I would just like to play some vanilla Reach and wait until Halo 4 for some new gameplay.

> So are you opposed to Sniper Rifles too?

Implying that every sniper sits in a corner. Not everyone sits back and pretends that he’s amazing with the sniper if he picks off one guy.

Your reasoning is amazing, 343.
