since Bungie left Microsoft a couple years ago, I think there could be a continuation of the story in the coming years. They have a bad reception from Destiny 2, and a new Marathon game would bring them back up to the top developers. What do you think?

Their current deal with Activision means they are basically owned by Activision for a decade, similar to their Microsoft deal. They also had a trilogy of Destiny games up until 2022 I think, as part of the deal.
A Marathon game may be possible if they stay independant for a couple of years afterwards and no longer want to support Destiny 3 (Considering they made Halo Reach after the MS deal was done, they will probably stick with Destiny). But I doubt it. Despite the critical feedback, Destiny 2 was a smash hit for businesses (especially considering the hate the first game got) and I’m sure all the publishers will be running to Bungie to get their next franchise.
Also, I’m not sure if this is a relevant discussion or not on the Halo forums. I’ll let the mods decide.
I’m still iffy on the idea of remakes (not a fan of CEA, or 2A) however I can see a quick remake of the 1st game only to bring interest back to the series and to try to show they still listen to fans. Idk, I’m on the fence. I’m more of an original guy myself when it comes to playing games. I love playing them as they were intended to be played originally. Not a remake. But it is a lesser known series when compared to games like Doom or Wolfenstein.
As for the placement, I’m not a mod so I cannot say but playing devil’s advocate, the description for this forum does include “Halo AND Xbox” subjects, so that’s their call.
As one who has experienced the amazing Aleph One ports, I’ll gladly show full support for a Marathon reboot. If Doom and Wolfenstein can be brought back successfully, so too can Marathon.
Marathon on the 360 made me feel sick so I wouldn’t mind a re master or remake.
Honestly if they let Bethesda publish it like how they published Doom and Wolfenstein, I’d be onboard. Bethesda seems to be good at backing the right developers for remakes lol
I’ve never actually played marathon. Is it any good?

It’s a very old trilogy developed by Bungie, lasting from 1994 - 1996. It resembles and plays very much like the original Doom, but the story is pretty awesome in my opinion. Marathon is also considered a spiritual predecessor to Halo, as some aspects would carry over to the latter.
If you wanna play a modern version of Marathon on your computer (Windows, Mac, and even Linux), check out the Aleph One ports.
Marathon won’t save bungie. The problem isn’ destiny itself it’s their business practices. If they remade or continued marathon they’d probably do the exact same things.

I really doubt it will. Bungie left Microsoft because they believed Microsoft were controlling but Activision is worse, yet Bungie know what they were doing and the way they treated Martin O’Donnell, the gamers…makes me think Bungie may never make a good Marathon game. I loved Bungie back in the day but these days most people don’t trust them anymore.
