Maps that change over time

For Infinite’s version of Wargames how would everyone like to see maps that change slightly over time? Similar to Fortnite for those who have played it. This would keep the maps fresh and interesting over long periods of time.

*This was meant to be in Infinite forums but the same question could apply to Halo 5 Warzone maps as a hypothetical.

I’d like dynamic maps personally. Events that happen at specified intervals could broaden a skill gap among players. I’m actually pretty intent on making a map with this idea.

Maybe for some game modes, but I feel like dynamic maps would be problematic and just wrong. First of all, Fortnite has one map. Halo has many. That’d be hard to keep track of. It’d also cost dev resources that I personally would feel more safe with them being allocated elsewhere. Also, what if players don’t like the changes? The Halo community seems to have very specific opinions on everything, and if 343 screws something up even once that’d be really bad. But most of all, maps create memories. To me I have a special connection with the Spire map from Reach because my friends and I would always play infection. The Spire reflects the good times. I want maps to be the same as the always have been and stay consistent to maintain memorable feels that you can always come back to. I wouldn’t want to come back to the Spire and see that now it’s been hit by a meteor or there is now lava or something (I’m speaking as if Reach was the game with dynamic maps for context purpose). So no, I don’t think dynamic maps are a good idea.

And Fortnite is never a good game to take inspiration from for a game like Halo.

My friends and I used to play infection on maps like Spire and Bone Yard. Back then it was fun now, it makes no sense.

Sounds cool but I really don’t want Halo doing what other games are doing. That is what took Halo off the rails to begin with. However I am not against maps like torque where there are moving platforms or walls. I also wouldn’t be against maps that have more interactive stuff where you could control doors or platforms with a switch. Or maps where the environment is more destructive where walls or trees or whatever can be taken down or destroyed with gun fire or grenades…stuff like that.

do you mean like valhalla or what

I agree. There’s a difference between the map changing itself over time at predicted intervals compared to the player’s having an ability to change the map. For example, opening the gate in Zanzibar (Halo 2) is almost a necessary condition to getting the flag out of the base successfully.

It’s not hard to implement. We can do this with timers and Forge. You can have the weather change throughout a match. You can add effects to those that alters the things in the map itself.

One specifically, is a map idea set on Mercury, where there’s a “night” and “day” effect you can make, and while “outside” of buildings during the day in direct sunlight can change the visor effect and cause a continuous minor amount of damage to simulate heat damage from closeness of the sun. Nighttime gives normal play outside of bases and buildings. It can then alternate multiple times per match.

That’s going to be a little weird if it changes over time in game.
