So I personally haven’t really liked the maps as much since Reach. Reach made the mistake of taking all of the multiplayer maps from the campaign and although Halo 4 doesn’t do this I still can’t help but feel slightly disappointed. Don’t get me wrong the maps are still fantastic but they seem to be lacking that Halo feeling. The maps are starting to feel “cluttered” and we don’t really have as many base maps as we previously had in other installments. (Just to clarify I’m talking about Red Base vs Blue base maps not non Dlc maps.) Also it seems like they are trying to make the maps fit into campaign rather then just come up with fun environments. Compared to maps like Standoff,Last Resort, Side Winder, Guardian, Ghost Town Blood Gulch,Hang em’ High and Battle Creak the maps are starting to look overly complex and lack the different playstyles that were associated with each map.
Perhaps I’m just overreacting from Nostalgia. Maybe it’s because forge takes away the pressures of making maps. Maybe it’s just the simple fact Halo 4 doesn’t have as many maps as past titles, or it’s to fit the new gameplay. Maybe it’s just because they had to make more maps in order to fit the new dominion gametype. Personally the maps haven’t had the same feeling since Reach came out to me and don’t seem as fun to play on.
That being said I don’t dislike all of the games maps. Haven is a really fun arena that leaves you never feeling safe, and Abandon is absolutely amazing to look at and reminds me of the maps from past titles. It seems to fit no where in the actual story and shows that they were really creative with it. Ragnarok is a fun surprise and shows that they intend to follow the tradition of remaking maps from past titles.
I’m guessing that I’m alone on this one but I’ll ask anyways if anyone else agrees. On the subject of maps are there any particular maps that you hope will get remakes? (Except for the obvious Blood Gulch)I know that the competitive players have been asking for more small arena type maps.
