There shouldn’t be any remakes on the disk. People will always vote for familiar maps and people are going to play them the same way they have in the past. Also, the more remakes, the fewer new maps are on the disk… bad idea. I want the first couple days of Halo 4 to be completely new, let me experiment with all the new setting and explore the new maps without conforming to the way an old map played.
With that being said, I want there to be a ridiculous amount of remakes available. I’m talking somewhere in the ballpark of 16 maps, in two separate maps packs. I know people have their problems with downloadable content, but this would accomplish a couple things. First, it would alloy the new maps to get the primary amount of matchmaking time they deserve for people to get familiar with them since not everyone would have these remake map packs. Bungie was hesitant to release remakes they thought didn’t work with the new game, with a huge map pack there definitely in the possibility of the map not working out, but let the community figure that out. With more maps you’ll hopefully see some succeed, instead of getting 1 or 2 remakes that the developers have tested and know they work, you’ll probably get at least 2 that work well, hopefully more. Increase their chances of succeeding by offering some options in forge to alter the map a little bit. Large map packs would also make the Map Pack Playists have greater replay value by having a better map selection. Keep the two sets of 8 maps similar to each other (8 small-medium, 8 medium-large). Makes the Map Pack Playists easier to create and if you tend to not really play BTB, or vice-versa, stick with the pack you’ll get the most use of.
After 6 months, give these map packs away for free. Matchmaking will become incredibly more diverse and by then all the new maps will be familiar to players so people won’t strictly vote for the remakes. How do you make it so there isn’t an uproar from those purchasing the maps now that it’s free? Offer a significant amount of bonuses available only to those who purchases them, after 6 months nobody can get them. Exclusive armor, armor skins, armor effects, weapon skins, symbols, nameplates, spartan points, or whatever else gets people to feel like their purchase was worthwhile. Have a different set of bonuses for each Map Pack so there is incentive to purchase both. Not sure how everyone else would feel about something like this, but I would be all over spending the money on the map packs if it meant access to exclusive in-game aesthetics.
Potential Map Packs, some combination of 8 from each list:
Small-Medium: Lockout, Midship, Longest, Solitary, Beaver Creek, Turf, Citadel, Desolation, Warlock, Turf, Sanctuary, The Pit, Guardian, Cold Storage, Narrows, Colossus, Ivory Tower, Hang Em High etc.
Medium-Large: Zanzibar, Coagulation/Valhalla/Hemorrhage, Headlong, Waterworks, Terminal, Burial Grounds, High Ground, Standoff, Timberland, Spire, Boardwalk, etc.
I’m definitely missing some larger maps, I usually don’t play in playlists larger than 8 players.
