Maps Are Characters Too

They should be living, breathing worlds that are unique from each other and have varying moods and themes. Self-similar maps are a waste of time.

After sitting through the cascade of grey-green maps that is Reach matchmaking, I agree 100%. 343i needs to focus on quality. I’d take 8 quality default multiplayer maps with unique feels and locations over 800 forgettable ones.

Yeah, how cool would it be if it started raining halfway though a game? Or if gigantic ships blocked out the sun for moments at a time?

No one would have ever thought of this…you sir are a genius!

Haha thank you sir, but hopefully 343 thought of this long ago…

> No one would have ever thought of this…you sir are a genius!

So…kinda like how in GoW players would need to be self concious about getting a shotgun to the face WHILE being aware of what hazards the map may present IE: razorhail, avalanches, rising imulsion. As well the stunning way some maps would change over time like the map that would slowly sink into the ground, causing mini rivers to appear and the underground caverns to be exposed.

Well said sir. Well said.

I would hate it. Reach maps sucked, besides Zealot and countdown. But all the other games played better without this kind of crap. IT’S AN ARENA SHOOTER! That kind of -Yoink- should not be happening during gameplay. If you do not like it play a different game.

Yeah I kind of have to agree with this. It’s not GoW, it’s halo. The environment should not be shifting.

Halo 4 needs Halo 2 style maps with fitting gameplay. Those maps all played amazing!

This is a really really good idea. you are a genius my friend.
Just imagine you are just about to snipe someone(with whatever sniper they put in halo 4) than all of a sudden a massive forerunner ship blocks out the sun.
Awesome!!

Do you realize how may people would be pissed off by this? Sounds cool nowm, but what if you were playing? You would get frustrated.

I like the idea of the changing environement, it would change the strategy from just straight up, ‘You go grab the rocket and we’ll camp in the big room.’ to where the bridges would be slippery, causing a Warthog to be unpredictable with minimal traction.

I love Reach, but yeah. My only real problem with Forge World is that all the areas look way to similar. Needs a bit more variety in the design of the maps.

I would also like to see maps with a bit more interaction. Doors that open/close, elevators, bridges. Things like that.

I agree with OP, but with a scale of my own, which I will present in my style.

Example as such

Map name: The fallen

Enviroment: Canyon, unstable ground, intervals of heavy rainfall every five minutes, overtime flooding

Hazards: Sinkholes, pits, falling objects and waterlevel

Time of day: Dusk

Event time: Destruction of Installation 04 [Replacement]

Weather: Thunderstorm, intervals of heavy rain every five minutes

Map size: Large

Template: Blood Gulch (seismic instability)

Gametype: High Ground (survival mode)

Description: This once peaceful canyon is falling apart, survive the torrent if you can survive each other.

Gametype effects: Places a single area where A palican dropship comes in to extract 1 Spartan. Speeds of the degradation of the map. Storms become heavier and more erratic.

Objective: Be the one to board the dropship, kill others to keep in place.

Not my best but I like it.

I like the idea, or even a night level that enables you to use either flashlights or Night Vision.

I’ve been thinking about an all-ice map that melts as you blast it with Forerunner weaponry. Or a sea-bed where Spartans in special sub suits frag each other in clear but deep waters. A gigantic map that features air, ground and ocean combat all at once. A vertical battlefield that may even stretch to space. Halo 6, baby.

Changing weather would affect air and sea combat, what with raging winds and fierce waters respectively. Tornadoes would be awesome.

I disagree. If that happened while I was playing, i would have the biggest nerdgasm in history.
