Mapping thrust in Bumper- & Helljumper?

Hey guys!

I have a quick question regarding the above mentioned button layouts. We all know both have the thrusters mapped to X. In middle of a fight it can get hard to use thrusters. More so, I tend to thrust less when it is mapped to X, which makes my moves somewhat predictable.
So basically I’m asking myself, how others handle this and if they remapped thrusters to a different button. For a several time I mapped thrusters to left stick click and it worked pretty well. I could add thrust to my strafing, everything felt smooth but I have been told that crouching is, not only for staying invisible on the minimap but also for strafing, crucial. Do you feel the same way or are the thrusters more important?

Note: I’m asking to standard controller user-only.
Note 2: Clawing is near impossible for me since it is painful and therefore really uncomfortable.

As always, thank you in advance

I now use a Elite with x on a paddle, but before that i would do 1 of 2 things.

With a precision weapon i would shoot and try to hit x at about the same time so i could quickly get my thumb back on the stick.

if i was using an auto i would almost do the same thing, except i would usually jump quickly and thrust a random direction.

now with the elite its non issue, but i still really dont thrust too much unless i really need to. Also my main ability in 4 was the thruster pack anyway, so i had a pretty good handle on using a thruster pack from that.

So mapping thrust to left stick click and crouch to X is not a decent solution?

well you asked what others have done and thats what i did. The best advice though is to just stick with what is most comfortable for you. heck even with my elite controller, i would try to figure out the best things to map to the back for each game and it was a nightmare. so i just have abxy mapped to them because it is the most comfortable for me. find what works for you.

I have jump and thrust on my thumb sticks

To go a bit into why I like it, having the thrust on the left stick lowers the thought of input cause you have to use the left stick any way to say the direction you want. Only down side is it’s very quick response time so some times I can be a bit early on the evade. I put any thing that should be used less on x y b a so I only use it if necessary and cut down on things like over sprinting and grenades.

I really can’t decide which one is more important, crouch or thrust. I’m refering to Proximity’s ‘Thrust Strafing Like the Pros’-video Thrust Strafing Like the Pros with Proximitty! - YouTube

Basically, I’m not able to do that since thrusting is on X. I use thrust to get out of a certain area really fast but not to strafe in 1vs1 engagements. Strafing-wise I’m rellying on a bad working crouch strafe.

Back to my initial question, which of the both above mentioned moves is more negligible?

Still looking for some advice, preferably from high ranked-players, regarding my issue. Currently I’m using the untouched Bumper Jumper layout. A few days ago I ran some Slayer matches with a friend who is high diamond tier. Most of our opponents were diamond and Onyx players. Accuracy wise, I could surprisingly hold up but strafing wise it was a disaster. I noticed that (high) diamond players thrust a lot in 1vs1 engagements then platinum players. Basically I wasn’t able to compete with the Thrust-Strafe.

Like I mentioned above, Clawing hurts my fingers and I’m not willing to invest 100+ bucks in a controller with paddles. Basically, I want to know, if mapping thrust from X to left stick click and vice versa is an option.
