Map weapon placement

Now I don’t mind power weapons becoming ordnance. But what happens when you run of ammo for both weapons and no guns are to be seen near by? I honestly wouldn’t mind a few magnums or assault rifles being places around the map. I’ve came across many situations where I literally had to go out to get killed just so I can respawn with fresh ammo.

What’s your opinion?

I feel like 343i is trying to make it where you can not go on long streaks anymore because of this. I personally run with the firepower perk so I can have a DMR and a BR equipped and I have found myself out of ammo and on a streak. I wish they would put some primary weapons on the battlefield just to let the people that are running out of ammo be able to stay in the battle without dying. If not putting the weapons on the battlefield let an ammo crate drop in a random ordnance drop with 200 rounds of ammo in it and who ever walks over it takes the amount of ammo that they need for their primary weapon(s) and move on and when that 200 rounds is gone then the timer for the next ammo drop begins.

Even fairer still, have a set number of ammo crates around the level, like the ones found in Reach’s firefight, that refills your primary weapon. In place of previous map control focused around power weapons, the dynamic would shift to these primary weapon ammo stashes.

That actually doesn’t sound half bad.

Agreed, in addition to running out of ammo, it’s harder still to get power weapons to respawn (like the sniper on Ragnarok) on time because once you’ve used up all the rounds (assuming you never dropped it) the new sniper doesn’t spawn until the old one is out of play. There’s no weapons to swap out the old empty sniper for, thus the new sniper doesn’t spawn, which leaves you with either murdering a teammate for more weapons and going out and killing yourself.

Just pick up your opponents weapon?

Unless you are rocking a Carbine or Assault rifle, you should be able to pick up tons of ammo.

That being said on some of the larger maps, yeah, some ammo boxes or something of that nature would be awesome.

Idle weapons despawn, it is not always smart to run right to where an enemy died due to instant spawn, and I like to use the Storm Rifle.

That’s a trade off for picking up a power weapon. You have a secondary, so choose your swap out well. Also, if you have a powerweapon, kill someone, then take their weapons. Obviously with a sniper your victim is far away, but you can pick a weapon off your dead teammate or another enemy close by. Or just die.

I miss the old battle rifle/ carbine spawns from Halo 3 so when you run out of ammo you can get a small, but need 72 round refill at the known locations.

I literally just wrote this same topic on the 343 forum. I was originally thinking they should add weapons to the map but I love the idea of adding ammo drops in some places or at least throw in some secondary weapons somewhere.
Running out of ammo is a real problem right now.

You assume the target you always kill with a power weapon will be within a safe range of picking up the weapon or ammo and going back into a safer area. This is almost never the case.

Most power weapons and starting weapons are used at a range. I’ve only had a handful of times where I had the opportunity to safely go grab their weapon or ammo without the threat of anything one shotting me.

They don’t despawn that quickly. Unless you are getting killed on the scoreboard you should have ample opportunities to pick up another weapon (and if you are getting killed on the scoreboard you should be dying enough that it won’t be a problem)
Storm Rifle can’t reload anyways so you’re kind of outta luck anyways.

Weapons despawn after 13 seconds of idle activity.
Not really. With the size of the current maps, and instant spawn, it is very difficult to get near a downed enemy unless you were within touching distance.
I hope you understand that join in progress completely negates your third point.
The Storm Rifle can’t reload, but why can’t I just grab a new one off the map if need be?

So 13 seconds, on smaller maps that isn’t a problem at all. You can reach most parts of any map at any time. On larger maps you shouldn’t have a respawn issue unless you are sitting out in the open with your shields down.

Perhaps I don’t have the issues of instant spawn that you do, but rarely do I find myself dying from an enemy I just killed. Haven is just about the only map I have problems with and that if you just sit in one place.
Adrift has far to many corridors that you can run through for the same enemy to be on you that quickly. Solace I never have problems on, I guess I could see an enemy spawning on the side you just killed him on, though that rarely happens.
Abandon is somewhere between Haven and Adrift. You can get caught off guard a lot of instant spawns, but there are tons of way to hide yourself.
You’re also missing the point that you can pick up teammates weapons as well.
If you are low on ammo and have been for awhile thats your fault not the games.
I fail to see how JIP has anything to do with what I mentioned.

I’m not saying I’m against weapon spawns or ammo boxes, I’m just saying that you shouldn’t ever be OOA. Just pick up another weapon. Honestly if you find it that hard, I’d say you’d have L2P issues.

In theory your plan and idea is sound, but this is matchmaking where plans almost never go accordingly. There is a million things that could go the other way with that 13 seconds.

Okay so 13 seconds is big whoop for you to get ammo and or weapon right? What’s to prevent the other team from killing you while you’re on your way over there. They may not be able to read your mind or your every movement but often they are there at the right place at the right time. And don’t forget, that’s their objective is to stop you from getting what you want.

Running out of ammo comes with the job, otherwise 343i would just unlimited ammo every starting weapon.

I personally Like it, fits into the whole war game theme. Realistically in the middle of a training exercise you will not come across extra ammo laying about fix points. I always found it funny that when you run around maps and weapons just happen to be placed in key spots… never seem right to me.
Also I think they are playing on the whole angle that a spartan should be able to battle with whatever is at their disposal, thou , I think, if you do run out of ammo you should be able to call for an ordnance resupply drop, perhaps a fix numbered per game. Would add more strategy to ones matches.
