Map Vetoing.

As we know with Halo 3 we only had one choice of map if we didn’t want it we could veto it, with Reach we all ways ended up with Swordbase or Countdown due to the voting. I feel Reach nearly got it right the main two issues were -

Issue one: That you could have unlimited amount of votes so people just messed around, I think it should be limited to one vote or maybe two.

Issue Two: Was that even if the maps ended up as a tie it would always be the top map that would win, which is why we end up with Swordbase. Now if there was a way for the system to read that map three had 3 votes first, then map one had 3 votes secondly, than map three would win.

I think this would help vary the map choices?

  1. I have no problem with people messing around, not many people do.

  2. Well, ties have to be settled one way or another. I guess Bungie just thought it would be nice to know what the outcome would be in the case of a tie as opposed to selecting one at random or something that no one voted for.

Since Halo 4 is going with a join in progress lobby system, I propose something similar to Crysis 2 be used for voting. In Crysis 2, lobbies have a predetermined map rotation with two voting options. Any given map will always appear with one other map (sometimes two) and only that map. Often the two choices given will be somewhat different as to not offer two different types of apples.

For example (using maps from Halo: Reach): Sword Base could always be paired with Arena Zealot and that combination always appears at the start of the rotation.

This way people can vote for what they want but you won’t get stuck playing the same three maps twenty games in a row. I suggest that a third option should be used and labelled ‘random’ so that if no one likes the two options given the lobby doesn’t fall apart instantly.
