Map Veto Pazazz

Does getting to vote/veto on which map you play improve your gameplay experience?

I personally loved getting to say no to certain maps in the original trilogy. Better yet, that feeling of do I play this map that is not so much my favorite, but I’d rather play this one than vote on the chance to play one I really do not like. More still, the dopamine hit when you do veto and your favorite shows up.
On a totally separate note, the fun in denying a custom game from starting with the delay countdown feature.

I think something is severely missing in Halo’s playlist support. Things like map rotations, updates, better events, or something I cannot fully describe other than with examples from other games (Fortnite and Apex) and the original trilogy. And I know most will utter forge, but without constant playlist support from the developer, the depth and liveliness of the game is known to few.

Do not be mistaken the current support for the playlists are, okay. But to attract and retain players, pazazz is greatly lacking.

This post is as much for Infinite as it is for Infinite is MCC.

Also, in this age of software as a service, this would give the developers info on which maps need enhancements. As well as something they could share with transparency for engagement. Like the most vetoed map is _____. Then to rework it and relaunch it. I can clearly see the lively debates brewing.

No, to all map voting. I enjoy the randomness.

Seeing as Veto/Voting generally leads to the same maps being picked over and over…I’d say good riddance to the ‘feature’. because it was an irritation when it meant paid dlc would never show up on the 360 games. If people want to play specific only maps, then they should just pick custom games instead.

As for map rotation it’s ok but picking random choices is not going to make difference. Game sadly has been struggling for a while and I don’t think there’s a perfect solution to get big chunks of players for long term population.

The thing is MCC works fine in its own way but Infinite flaws are too many to count.

Yeah… It’s not actually random…

People SERIOUSLY need to understand the difference between VETO and VOTING…

The system we have now is a godawful weight system where 343i dictates what maps gets the higher chance of being picked by a bot. You have 0 control and it’s not actually random as many people think it is (random would be equal weight on all maps). Worst yet, there’s no effective way to give proper feedback other than leaving the game in protest.

With VOTING (which is a terrible choice, but still better than what we have now) you get a list of maps and modes and can vote, leading to the same map knowingly being picked more often than others. But at least the maps picked are player chosen, and not 343.

With VETOing you get a choice to SKIP one map WITHOUT knowing the next map. You get ONE veto per game so you can’t continue to skip until you get your fav map, so the risk of playing on a worse map is always a possiblity with VETOing. Pair this with a PROPER randomized pool (equal/no weight system) and it’s basically as perfect as it gets. In addition to that, 343 gets proper feedback on what maps/modes players absolutely do NOT want to play (like Dino Blasters on Anchor 9). This was the system OG Halo 3 used (though they added more veto chances later, which sucked).

Veto is the perfect middle-ground and should be implemented.

It’s nice to see some agreement… Thank you.

Veto was a great middle ground. One button press to say, I do not want to play this map. Whether that be at the moment, until it gets improved, or never. The original voting systems were cumbersome.

I also want to mention how awesome the social search is on MCC. I :heavy_heart_exclamation: it. From the options to pick the game, size, and mode. Excellent. The ability to veto would be a great addition in my eyes.

The MCC is supposed to be an authentic Halo experience. The older games had a veto option so it should be here. I don’t see you people complaining about removing jackal snipers in H2 in the campaign. Nobody wants to play the garbage dlc maps every game that nobody likes.

Umm accepting bad game design for the sake of bad game design is a bad idea. Just because ‘you’ don’t like something does not mean everyone else should not be allowed to. Also wrong again I never asked for removing Jackel snipers…quit making false statements about something you know nothing about that.

You really have to explain to me how Veto leads to the same maps being picked when the whole point of Veto is not knowing what map comes next and is a great tool for preventing the same map being picked.

And explain how it would be worse than the current weight system where 343 essentially votes for you by giving a couple maps a very high weight while other maps such a low weight you may never see them after hundreds of hours.

Veto leads to the same maps getting chosen often…the system was exploited often to get maps they want then people would quit if they didn’t get the map they wanted.

At the moment it’s on rotation which means every map gets a chance while with the voting system it made it so paid dlc would very rarely show up on 360.

Far as I’m concerned good riddance to veto/voting.

When I have to play something I know is going to be a terrible experience without an opportunity to voice my opinion I am much likelier to quite.

As for the randomness, the modes and maps are weighted and probably should be more so. I can give numerous examples.

Getting the same map is the point. These other maps and modes need adjustments.

Veto is better than voting, but I don’t particularly like either. The system as it is now isn’t perfect, but it’s better than either IMO. Voting meant I pretty much never got to play what I wanted, veto meant I sometimes got to play what I wanted. With how it is now, I pretty much always get at least something close to what I actually want to play in matchmaking.

Again, explain HOW veto would cause the same maps getting picked when the whole point of veto is voting for something you don’t know…

The current system is entirely automated, but IT IS NOT RANDOM. A few maps are weighed HIGHER than other maps which means that you have a HIGHER CHANCE of getting THE SAME couple maps while NEVER seeing some other maps.

Wrong.

  • If person starts match they have a random chance to be anywhere in the cycle.
  • If people veto that means certain maps may never be selected…making things like the 360 dlc barely ever seen on the 360 and trust me that annoyed the hell out of me at the time.
  • As for voting…we had that on MCC and all I ever saw most of the time was Valhalla because it kept getting picked majority of the time and I was sick of it. We have about 100 maps and I barely ever saw maybe 10 of them over and over.

You act like weighting is the problem when that’s been a common problem with VETO/Voting too and was clearly exploited often. VETO/Voting is just awful. I’ve said this multiply times in these forums if people are that desperate to play the same few maps then they should probably stick to custom games only.

Jackal snipers are bad game design. Everybody agrees that the campaign on legendary is unfair. Button combos weren’t intended yet they’re still in the game because that’s how it was. If you think we should leave some things and remove others then you’re a hypocrite.
We’re all stuck playing on the same maps now. Everybody’s most played map on their stats is sandbox. You don’t even have Snowbound or High ground in the rotation anymore in ranked. The dlc maps are way worse than they were because the spawns are broken.

  • What cycle are you talkning about? Maps have a weight, not a turn in line. If it was a cycle of maps then why did I have a night where I got literally nothing but standoff and sandtrap? (I have this documented btw)

  • If people keep vetoing on a particular map, it’s probably a really bad map/mode and they would probably have quit the game on it anyway (like people are doing now). What Halo 3 did wrong was add MORE vetos, it should only be one, otherwise it’s essentially voting and just drags out the search.

  • I didn’t say voting was good?.. I said it was better than what we have now, because what we have now is essentially voting that 343 controls, which leads to a few maps having a higher chance of being picked than others. Difference being voting is chosen by PLAYER while the other by the DEV. Neither should be in the game.

And once again I feel like I have to explain vetoing to you because I don’t think you understand it…

  • With vetoing you get ONE veto per matchmaking.

  • 51% of the lobby has to veto the map for it to get skipped

  • The ONLY information you get is what map the game has picked from a completely randomized pool.

  • If you veto on a map, you have no idea what the next map is going to be, there will always be a risk of an even WORSE map/mode being the replacement.

‘You’ are not everyone. 2ndly you were the one talking about Jackels. The campaign isn’t that bad and that has nothing to do with veto/voting. All you seem to be doing is making incoherent statements and generalizing to fit an agenda that only you brought up.

Umm as ‘same maps’…just no. When the old system was in place we had 4 games splitup into playlists and yet despite that the only option I ever saw most of the time was Halo 3’s Valhalla…if you’re tired of certain maps showing then you have the choice to pick a different playlist or game or play custom games.

As for spawns…that’s down to poor games design and has nothing to do with the veteo/voting and honestly I really couldn’t careless if you dislike the maps or the campaign.

Veto did not cause that problem, that problem was due to the functionality of the DLC format. DLC maps were actually the only maps to be weighted differently on 360, with that weighting in their favor as it was expected most players wouldn’t have the packs, meaning they wouldn’t show up otherwise.

what prevented them from ever being played was the players who didn’t have the packs installed, either because they had no interest (not everyone had Halo 3 Mythic), or more maliciously were deleting the map packs from their 360’s Hard Drive out of spite, so that they would only get the default maps in matchmaking (some threads here have recently been discussing how this problem might have resurged as a new form of cheating/griefing in MCC).

Yes, the campaign is a legitimate argument. The MCC should be exactly like the older games but they aren’t. It’s the least 343 should give us. You exposed yourself as somebody that has never played the older games when you claimed the broken spawns are a result of poor design. The spawns were NOT broken and they worked as intended. The only bad map was Foundry because they could still spawn directly behind you at the bases. H2 is miles worse than H3, and nobody plays H2 ranked because of it. You can’t even block certain spawns in CE anymore like top safe on prisoner unless you’re directly on the sphere. What is it about you revisionists with this series? You people act like we haven’t played Halo for years and don’t remember.
