Map variants and Game Types limited at 50?!

I know the game has a lot of problems right now, and there are more pressing concerns. MCC does have the potential to be amazing. But I feel like this is going to become more and more of an issue very shortly for a lot of gamers. We need to address this now.

In MCC we can only have 50 custom maps and 50 game type variants total for all four Halo games. This is brutally limiting.

Here’s a pic of exactly what I’m talking about: http://postimg.org/image/ke960eh6z/

I host custom games for my friends and we have an insane amount of fun. We love playing all sorts of different maps and gametypes, and I love saving the best stuff so we can replay it. I also make a ton of content myself. I have several ideas for most of the included H2A, H3 and H4 maps. Most ideas require their own map variant. And that’s what, 80+ forgeable maps spread across the different Halos? And that’s not even getting into forged maps made from scratch.

I realize a lot of players will never hit these limits, but I am going to hit them in probably 2 weeks. This is going to have a very negative effect on my friends and I, and most people who really enjoy custom games and forging.

In Halo 3 we could have a hundred custom content items per storage device. And I had a couple memory cards full of maps and gametypes and was able to make things work with that by switching storage devices in game. In Halo Reach and Halo 4 we could have an unlimited amount of maps and gametypes. A 50 item limitc is a HUGE step backwards.

This is kind of like buying a MP3 player that is $400 dollars and you can only have 50 songs on it. And there’s no reason for the limit. It will only take up 2% of the devices storage. I’m sorry but it’s just ridiculous.

How hard would it be just to increase this number?! Why are we limited?! Can anyone think of any ways around this? I’ve already tried putting maps in my shared files, but that doesn’t work because I have to download the files first in order to play them.

I need at least 200 slots for maps and gametypes. At least 500 slots for each would be ideal. But honestly no limit would be best so that we never even have to think about it.

Additionally there’s a couple of other issues that make custom games less enjoyable. We’re not able to switch party lead to someone else (for example if someone has a map they want to load up.) And while in game it’s not possible to switch teams, making it impossible to balance teams while in game. Also it’s not possible to limit the party size. This is crucial for doing smaller tests and avoiding the awkwardness of having to ask people to leave.

It just feels like custom games were overlooked, or handled by someone who didn’t really understand everything needed to make them work smoothly. We used to have these options!

And one last thing I’ll throw in that would be really nice to see added is the ability for the person in charge of the party to go and change peoples team themselves.

Please let me know below if any of these things will be an issue for you or someone you know. Or if you even understand why this will be a problem for a lot of people. We need to make 343 aware that needs to be fixed right along with all the other stuff in what is hopefully a patch coming very soon.

I agree Nondual, they need to deal with this before they start getting sidetracked with other things. Games like FarCry had some things they needed to fix but they got

sidetracked and never made FarCry 3s map editing or multiplayer better. It hurt the games online and It will do the same to MCC if 343 don’t work on these things early on and

not wait tel a far later update to do it. Especially sense most people got it for the online and we have lots of forgers out there and people who love to download maps. Like you

said. It will fill up very quickly. and the last thing people want to do is start having to choose what maps they have to delete because they don’t have the room for it.

Yeah, I noticed this and was kinda disappointed. I hope thye increase it to at least 500. Didn’t Halo 4 have a limit of around 1000 or something?

Thanks Ark. Yeah I think people will be surprised at how quickly 50 maps will fill up.

Was it 1000? I thought is was unlimited, but I could be wrong. Not surprising I didn’t hear about it, because not a lot of people would ever hit a 1000 maps or gametypes. Yeah, at least 500 would be nice. They just have to add a zero! Lol.

yeah I don’t know why 50. I kinda wanted unlimited local space.

Exactly. Thanks N7R.

This needs to receive more attention. This is a huge oversight/flaw and even though matchmaking is obviously a bigger priority for 343 right now, there is still a huge Custom Games community who are going to have to deal with this brutal limitation. I really don’t want to see Custom Games dying only a few weeks or months in to the MCC’s lifetime because of a stupid little limitation like this. (Not to mention the lack of baseline functionality like Promote to Party Leader and changing teams in game.)

I don’t understand the cap. At all. Game devs need to comprehend that a lot of what keeps people coming back to their games is custom content, and the hype and passion that is generated by that custom content. Stats can’t track this, but it’s infectious, and it happens. Custom lobby hosts provide a fun environment that keeps the game fresh and keeps a ton of gamers coming back, even when they aren’t specifically coming back for custom games. These hosts and custom content creators may be few, but they are most certainly not a small part of continuing the momentum of fandom in a game.

Add to that the fact that we have just spent hundreds of dollars on a shiny console and new Halo game that is supposed to be bigger and better, yet it has more limitations, and that’s definitely a downer. It certainly isn’t encouraging custom games hosts, game creators, and Forgers to do what they do.

We’re not just talking one Halo version here to fill those measly 50 slots for custom maps AND gametypes, right? We’re talking all four Halo versions? That’s… that’s ridonkulous.

Yeah it would really be nice to see custom games receive the attention they deserve, they can be as amazing as people are willing to make them.

Yikes! I thought that limit was just for shared files. :frowning:

Thanks for the support. And yeah, just to clarify people can hit the “options/start button” and go to “my files” and see for themselves:

Gametypes: 50 temporary files, 50 local files, 50 shared files
Maps variant: 50 temporary files, 50 local files, 50 shared files
Films: . . this just shows temporary files
Screenshots: 40 local files, 40 shared files.
It’s great that we have 50 shared files slots, but it’s going to be hard to share a lot of files when we can only save 50 locally.

Yup! D : I understand the 50 limit for shared files, and honestly that’s pretty sweet. But then it’s like they picked the same number for local files just to make it look continuous . . .

Wow, yeah, that’s really bad. When I Forged, I always saved new revisions every session. It protected against save bugs and file corruption, and it allowed me to revert any mistakes I might make. I also used to do some screenshot art in Halo 4. If I were to start doing either of those actively in H2A, I’d reach the file limits in days.

Yeah . . . I love screen shots too. Are we able to at least upload those online and then save those to our computer? (Like we used too)
And you bring up a very good point about needing to save multiple file versions while forging to protect against bugs. Earlier in this forum section I saw a thread about someone who already lost a days work because the map override bug is back in MCC! Hence even more need for a large local file limit. I’ve been contemplating ways around this. I think I’m going to do most my forging on a silver account, and then just transfer the finished maps to my main account to be played . . . For now.

I’m not sure. There’s no in-game File Browser for the MCC, so I wouldn’t expect the website to let us browse and download MCC screenshots.

Is this the same bug that the “Save” menu option (as opposed to “Save As New”) usually caused in Reach and Halo 4, right? I would’ve expected that to be fixed.

And like you said Nondual, if the Override Glitch is back then people will need to take up even more space just to be sure there maps are safe and have many back ups. One of my Reach maps I spent a long time on I had 7 Backups and 3 of them ended up glitching.
Room will run out even faster now that that glitch is back.

You were able to save maps? Teach me your ways, because whenever I save a Forge Map it doesn’t seem to save and just disappears. I lost a couple hours worth of work, and probably won’t bother to remake the map. It wasn’t professional grade by any means, but I was having fun and now its just all gone.

Yeah it would seem it’s pretty much the same bug. I was thinking it would be fixed too, especially since it seems like a new interface. I really want 343 to be aware it needs to be fixed right away or at least for Halo 5.

Yes indeed. Like I’ve been saying, I think I’m going to forge on a silver account so I don’t run out of room on my main account.
