Map takers

Recently I have had my clan map stolen by some jerk. Now this is a map that me and my forge team have made ourselves. I am just fine with other people using the map, but the thing that messes with my head is the fact that he took it and now claims that it’s “his map” and that “he made it from scratch” when it was made by my team that made the map from scratch! What do you guys think about these players? Let me know.

Obviously I think it’s a really scummy thing to do.

Problem is, as long as there seems an opportunity, some people will abuse it; it’s how the world works unfortunately.

Best choice of action is to report it and move on, no point losing sleep over it, so to speak.

This was more so of an issue way back when forge came out and the maps only cited who previously edited said map. Original authors generally don’t get cited unless mention so by honor rules in the description of the maps, it sucks for those who get plagiarized.

There are no honor among thieves, If I were to use a map I’ll give credits to the Maker, its honestly scummy how they steal claming its their own

I am sorry that your map has been taken, but I do have one question. Isn’t there a way to make the map private or can’t be modified by the person using it?

Yes there is, any map that you make is private. You need to make it available for search and download in the map settings in order for people to take and use your map. But I opened the map up for search so my friend could download it, and in the five minutes it was available a player named [redacted] took the map and renamed it so it says he was the original author. But if you don’t make it available for search, other players cannot take the map.

I think there’s an option to “lock” your maps in a way that prevents other people from modifying it should they take it. When dealing with something like this, leave behind a “personal signature” somewhere on the map in a hidden location to assert your legitimacy as the original creator. This can be any object you choose. Then, ask the suspects to find it in a set amount of time.

That’s what one of my old guys did in anticipation for these incidents.

Just put your gamertag/forge team in the tags. Thats what my team does.

I didn’t know that you could do that! Thanks man!
