Map Spawn Idea (ODST Drop Pods)

I don’t expect this to really take off, nor have it taken seriously. I was perusing some games I played on the 360 to just relive a bit of nostalgia from more than a decade ago, and I came across this game called Section 8. Now this game had a very unique way of spawning a player into the map. Instead of Spawn Points, a player can choose a specific point on a map, and they drop down towards that location until they land on the surface of the battlefield. The main obstacle being major bases being controlled by an enemy team that will have AA guns that will shoot down any player dropping down into that zone.

This got me thinking that Halo would have done something like that eventually, except using ODST drop pods, but sadly, it has not done that, nor came anywhere close. Granted, this wouldn't work on alot of game types, but it would have been cool on BTB or FFA games, or even Firefight games where players stormed enemy bases to have a distinct way of completing certain objectives. Having little side missions like taking out AA guns to let allied players drop right into the base to capture it faster and the like.

This is just wishful thinking, but it was a nice little trip down memory lane.

I remember this game and I loved it. I think this would fit very well with Halo since we see ODST’s and Chief dropping from orbit all the time. Granted this probably won’t work for smaller game modes and maps but for BTB this would be pretty neat. Realistically I think Firefight would work amazing with this and would be the best place to implement it

I thought the same thing. Traditional spawning would still be a major part of the game, but in some circumstances, the idea could still hold up.

Loved section 8.
There is some sort of system like this already implemented in engine from what we can tell.
Its not an uncommon feature having been made mainstream by Battle Royals.
I would like the system present in a larger scale objective team mode. Perhaps a new dominion mode where activating AA guns neutralises the enemies teams option of orbital insertion for that section of map.
A spawn at base or on squad option be cool also.

This has been something many people have tried to do using Forge to varying degrees of success. I’d love to see this become an option for a spawn intro.

I’ve done something similar in H5 Forge by having you spawn in a flying pelican then ground pound down. It’s a neat thing but a novelty more than a real implementation. I think the drop pod idea is more suited to a Warzone set up, preferably in a larger scale version of warzone. Something more Battlefield scale. The balancing aspect would be challenging though. If someone can just drop pod in anywhere, it makes it more difficult to feel like you can actually work as a team to make a defensive line and push for the next objective.
