Map similarity

Why did they make each map twice with different layout?
Truth - Regret
Empire - Eden
Pegasus - Orion
Crossfire - Trench

They’re almost the same with some small changes.
Did they run out of ideas or are they just testing which works better for the final game?

343 calls this reimagining maps, but i think they are different map variants and they’ll add many more maps in the full game

The last two don’t really count. The main similarity between them is that they use the same forge canvas.
The other two are remixes, giving different flow and dynamics despite using the same assets. They’re different enough for me.

Remix maps were a way to add variety to the beta without the need of a full dev cycle of a unique map.

I like this idea if it means there are a lot more maps in game due to the variation of the same idea.

Although I usually prefer quality over quantity. If it’s a fast way to make ok maps from great maps. I would be ok as long as it means more maps in the final game.
But I did enjoy empire, truth, pegasus, and orion more than the remixed maps. So idk

Empire was actually a remix of Eden, not the other way around. And yeah, it’s pretty much just a way of creating multiple maps that play really well in a short amount of time.

The “best” answer would be that as one would read the forums and play the games over the years, they would see and experience the patterns of certain gametypes just not playing as well on some maps as others. Some maps are very versatile while others are very specific, for the gametypes that are enjoyable on them.

So… Why not cater each map to specific gametypes and allow crossover if one chooses?? And if we’re tweaking maps for gametypes, should we not make them distinguishable enough so that though there is familiarity between maps, there is a defined sense of knowing what do to on each variation of map because of the lighting and architecture vary enough to allow?

As you said, they are indeed different layouts, about as different as the Bloodline series of maps are to the Norse maps (Valhalla). Meaning there is a similar feel to some stuff but the gameplay is certainly more different than similar.
The aesthetics are different enough to be as different as Heretic is to Assembly or Epitaph is to Citadel. You feel a connection but you don’t feel “sameness.”

I agree with everything u said except liking Empire more than Eden. Orion and Eden are my favorite maps from the beta. They were all good though, unlike the halo 3 beta…looking at u Snowbound
