So… I just played my first game on the map Settler for CtF.
My first impression was… “Finally a map on this area in MM.”
However… this was soon killed.
343, I have no idea what you’re thinking with map design, but maps like this aren’t accepted.
The map lack the Reward System, Skill and Pathway systems.
As examples:
A sniper spawns on top of the mountain. Long range weapon on a high spot where there are only 2 entries (excluding jet-packing). Switch it with the Shotgun or remove it.
Rockets spawn on several locations. Even near the bases. Remove some.
Cross Mapping is fully able. And not only with DMRs (just makes DMRs more powerful though…) Bring in move cover.
The stairways to the top of the bases are placed wrong. No, not in opinion. As fact. Instead of walking smooth on it, you gotta jump on it if you come from the side. If it sticks out without a railing, people will assume they can walk on it. Especially if they run away from someone and stick close to the walls, where jumping or walking away from the wall could mean death. Set the stairs right so you can walk on it normally
2 Warthogs in a small map? They aren’t exactly good to be used in this fairly small map. Mongooses will do better
And it might be an idea to bring in maps that THFE review?
Yeah none of the Crimson maps are very good. I played like a total of 7 games on those maps…

I like Harvest, other maps are craptastic.
I like Settler. Finally a map that is well thought-out.
I guess it could use some work though. The sniper for instance could be moved to the canyon side bridge instead.

exactly. It could be a very good map. I think I’ll go in Forge and update it… just for what it could be
I disagree with removing warthogs. I feel that they fit fine on the map, just wish people used them more.
I like this map because it has rolling hills for cover like Blood Gulch, but it could still use some more. I’d forge some rocks in, but make sure it also looks nice.
Sniper should be, as I said, on the Canyon-Side bridge. Rockets could be put in the middle of the map, or in the Ravine itself. Shotguns are fine in the bases themselves.

Settler isn’t a Crimson map.
It would be good with no Sniper Rifle, and one less Rocket Launcher. Other than that it’s fine. Two bases with Halo landscape in between; a solid CTF map.
Really the sniper spawn sounds like the only problem to me and if your team is on top of that it’s nbd. I’ve grabbed the enemy flag on settler and lumbered across the map with it, with that stupid waypoint over my head, no less. There is deffinatley enough cover and multiple paths that you can successfully cross. I like it. It might be my new favorite CTF map, although I really do enjoy simplex, but I think that map works a lot better in throwdown.
I like the map, kinda reminds me of a tiny version of Blood Gulch. My only issue, as you mentioned, is the sniper rifle. Remove it from that cliff and the map would be a lot better.

bring it to the wargames mappack section bro wont do much good here.

I find this interesting. One moment people are complaining about fighting and securing the power weapons then the next they start complaining about the location of drop. Having issues jetpacking across map with your AR? Maybe switch up to a DMR that you’ve been complaining about and put shots on the sniper? Flank him? Call out his position? Teamshot?
What happened to fighting and securing power weapons, what happened to earning that sniper rifle or the feeling of taking it from someone after you slayed them? This map in particular is a great map, i don’t see an issue with it. But…that’s, just like, my opinion man.

My issue with it, is the location it spawns. I don’t think it should be removed from the map, just placed somewhere else. Whichever team controls that hill with snipe will dominate the game with complete map control and have the enemy spawn trapped.
I have done this myself to know, and it has also been done to my team. What I would do, is flip the shotgun spawn where the sniper is now and it would be more balanced.
Not really sure why you got so defensive and jumped to conclusions either. I never use AR or jetpack for that matter. More of a Light Rifle/BR guy. And I have no issue with “fighting for power weapons”. I much prefer the traditional Halo style over person ordinance. However, a map can be unbalanced if certain weapons are placed in areas too easy to camp.
Is settler a community map?
> Is settler a community map?
No. It is one of the 3 premade Forge maps that shipped with the game.
> Is settler a community map?
It’s a map that came with the game on the disc and was forged from the Ravine forge environment.

The point of issue (major at least, seeing the comments) is the position of the Sniper Rifle only. Seeing how it completely lacks the system of Risk & Reward.
With this weapon the risk is going up a very secured path where you’re very safe. The reward is the Sniper Rifle and the security. This doesn’t add up to the gameplay.
And besides, some people choose not to use the DMR because they want to try out other weapons. Or people choose to not go into gamechat. Yet, neither the OP DMR or the teamwork is the issue. I usually can fight well against DMRs with a Carbine. ANd I usually manage just fine without teamspeak.
Yet if your team knows a sniper is able to pick everyone off while the enemy pressures the camp, they wont come out of the base and only defend.
