Map Repeats

Anyway, I have been playing halo 5 since may of this year, and as we all know, h5 has its flaws, but one thing that has always stood out to me is the repeating of map characteristics.

If you don’t get what I’m saying, there are 5 examples I can think of.

Eden and Empire
Riptide and Fathom
Truth and Regret
Torque and Stasis
Plaza and Overgrowth

all of these maps have very similar aspects and map characteristics, and it just feels lazy to me. I think the most notable is definitely eden and empire. when I began playing h5, I was confused as to why this one map kept changing randomly.

What do y’all think about this?

[edit: lmk if there are any other map ‘combos’ or ‘repeats’ i missed]

I’m no expert but I’m gonna guess they did it for the same reason Bungie copied and pasted all their multiplayer maps in Halo Reach from the campaign. I guess we can just call it time saving or laziness, but I don’t work there so I can’t say for sure. I’ve had to do lackluster performance at my jobs before for multiple reasons: not enough time given to me, being rushed by customers or management, being tired, or hell, just being plain lazy.

However, I still don’t think there’s any valid reason why a huge AAA title like Halo should have redundant and obviously rushed multiplayer maps. Halo 3 multiplayer maps were all unique and all different in their own ways, and that was 8 years before the release of Halo 5, so what’s their excuse? who knows. Like I said before, I don’t work there, and I certainly don’t envy anyone who’s in a position to put out work they know can be better, especially if it’s been proven that it can be done.

Those are map remixes OP, they were in the beta too. It allowed the Devs to create more dev made maps in a shorter amount of time.

Yeah, they’re remixes. It was done on purpose and they even made videos about making them.

Lazyness, they took more time designing the req system then actually adding good(not copy/pasted) content

Well, 343i kinda stated this  here’s a quick list, I think you got most though:

  • The Rig & Molten - Truth & Regret - Empire & Eden - Torque & Stasis - Plaza & Overgrowth - Fathom & Riptide343i never made it a secret that they were just reimagining maps already in the Halo franchise.

i have more of a problem with the fact i never get to see half of the maps i was on tonight for 3 hours and played the same few maps i havent played on overgrowth, torque and molten in a long time and not seen fathom in a few days just wish there was more verity just a shame really

If you don’t back out of the postgame lobby search, your chances of getting the same map twice will decrease.

Its luck of the draw, I got overgrowth a couple of times, torque I dislike, so no hardship there, but agree not seen molten (they may be down to the gameplay type that I play)

At first this really bothered me too. After a while though I grew to accept it. Does seem kinda borderline lazy but hey, I haven’t made a forge map since halo 3. There’s way to many complexities involved with it now.

it was like that a few years ago but it doesnt seem to matter now. i dont back out normally yet the same couple maps show up

It’s not a guarantee that you won’t get the same map again, but it just lowers your chances of getting it. Also, if the map has multiple gametypes, then it won’t count.

I don’t mind those ‘mixes’ - in fact I enjoy the different play style I get out of them.
Molten and the rig are hardly the same at all

I just would like to see some classic maps like Guardian make an official comeback

lockout blackout shutout…‘buttout’? …lol we need a …out map
